Bitcoin was supposed to help fix problems like PayPal holding payments. This seems to make bitcoin vulnerable to it.

This is a sad, desperate attempt by Google to take on a competitor(facebook). I wish Google showed as much restraint and care in taking on facebook as facebook is showing in taking on google when it comes to search.

Twitter IPO is bad for start ups because its fueled by inexperienced investors who missed out on Facebook. What they don't realize is that twitter is no where near facebook's trajectory on any of the metrics that matter(revenue, p

Twitter still hasn't provided any guidance on profitability. My biggest fear is that over the next few quarters, Twitter will undo much of the goodwill for tech stocks generated by Facebook by not being able to match the bar set by Fac

What backbones? We had an option to get much cheaper pricing on Cogent. We decided to pay a bit extra for premium. Also, most of our cost was for the hardware(not the bandwidth). We went with top-notch storage with RAID and a bunch of ram.

I can vouch for your numbers. My music start-up was one of Softlayer's early customers. We stayed with them for a while before moving to an even cheaper host. In all, we were pushing over 100TB and paying under $3,000/mo for ever

My hunch is that Everpix's $35,000/mo AWS bill could have been significantly less if they went with their own dedicated servers. When I ran my music start-up, really smart people would look at me funny when I'd tell them it i

Seconded. I used to work at Betterfly which is in the same space and our lack of focus on a vertical ultimately really cost us. To our VC's credit, they always pushed us to pick a vertical-- even if it was something completely random.

If access tokens were encrypted (which they are now) then this would have been avoided. That answers my question! (See https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6619265 ) Kudos for how you guys handled this during this tough fe

There is no design trend I hate more than buttons redesigned to look like normal(not even clickable) text. Simply insane. Flat designs represented by these screenshots are a depressing step back in usability.
