Why not let Apple sell the devices and Amazon sell the content? Great question. It does seem efficient, what with comparative advantage and all. Because then then that's an experience that's either customer-integrated or concessionary. A

Oh, do I ever remember jamming pluses in front of all my search terms. So annoying. When I switched early to Google, I would chuckle at people who said "search for +firefox +windows +download". Because I didn't have to do that anymore, I us

I had the same problem (actually ten hours) until I was 27. It made my academically-rigorous engineering school an extreme challenge. But then I was able to get by with 8 and now 7, which makes things a lot better. No idea why.

With a rhythm-game type app, you can dictate what the user is supposed to be playing. With a sheet music app, not so much. People will want to play the first few measures over and over, try something again after messing it up, stop and tak

The hurdle for this is that to do it well, you need polyphonic pitch detection, which you could say is a little tricky. However, I worked on the prototype for a music app that does polyphonic pitch detection for a greater effect than page t

Congrats, Dan! What a great write-up. So glad to see how far this has come. Leaving aside the practical matters native to the iPad, I think not having an extensive classical selection is one of the best ways you could be dinged. It speak

I had a C64 as well and recall now that my friends with Apple IIs were all pretty well-off. This went completely over my head at the time. Purely incidentally, my C64 floppy drive's case was cracked because the family acquaintance we got it

Consumers can get over a weird name (Wii?!) but what hurts is when they can never remember it. It's easier to remember names that are concrete (even though monkeys have nothing to do with surveys) or have a memorable connection to the produ

Note that the 6502 documentary holds a decisive lead in the number of backers (25 vs. 11 for Arcade and 3 for Tape). I presume this is a result of the huge amount of Apple II affection still out there. When I got into the game industry in t

This is uniquely entertaining. I would love to see this more often. What this really highlights is that entrepreneurs aren't put face to face with someone as incisive and BS-resistant as PG or Harj nearly often enough. Maybe there's an opp

It does seem like there could be a breaking point. Are they really going to stick to treating everyone to the same perks? The ones they use to compete for engineering talent in Palo Alto? I would keep it up if it up to me, knowing that the

In his profile, rimantas mentions he's in Vilnius. Lithuania is impressive. Not only are there the 13 public holidays, workers with a child under 14 get an extra week. Now that's how you prevent population decline! So that's five weeks p
