Even following best practices, the top priority of the project should be to fulfill the players' expectations and realize the designers' vision. That's not as compatible with technical excellence at every stage of the project as you'd hope

Sweet, laser-targeted idea. The quality of the business concepts coming out of YC have increased even as their quantity has exploded. It could be survivorship bias, but in any case I'm impressed.

A great counterpoint experiment would be to similarly expose young men to images, verbal cues and goals of physical fitness and competitiveness and then measure their interest in STEM achievement. If there is no negative impact, you overtur

I can vouch for the agreeableness of this system. I received a bonus from a similar pool when the company I was working at was sold. It came across to me and everyone else who received it as a genuine and thoughtful act. That may have been

The current state of the art that I've noticed for App Store review spam is to: 1) Create accounts well ahead of time 2) Use the accounts to give nearly-always-five-star reviews to several highly-rated and frequently-reviewed free apps, suc

There are generally three kinds of mission statement. The plain mission statement which comes out and tells you what the company does, as if you'd never heard of them before. This is best typified by the Five Guys fast food chain's mission

I know I happily streamed .au music from the sounds.sdsu.edu FTP server into /dev/audio (late at night, of course) in that era. Since it was an FTP server, I suppose there was a rough sort of DRM (maximum connections allowed) and metadata (

I distinctly remember being surprised at this turn of events. It didn't seem natural, but then again I understood startup hiring was a challenge (for different reasons then versus now). I haven't heard of much YC intermerging since then.

Gotta agree the comment on the article by acitrano - they probably do own copyright to the picture, but to reveal why outside of court would needlessly undermine the trope which has made it famous. Indeed, I presume that surfacing "the lega

Absolutely agree. We're all passionate about great products here, right? And stories where great products win despite all odds are what I want to tell my kids at night. But I'm going to be honest, given a lone founder, I'd prefer to invest

I hesitate to recommend the Steve Martin line to non-performers. I've known several entrepreneurs who have sunk a year or years of their lives into codebases and eternally-half-built products instead of businesses. Including myself at 20!

What is true for getting acquired is about as true for acquiring customers. If people don't know about you or haven't heard of your product from other means, you have to break through a wall of indifference. This is the real value of cover

A real victory for YC as well as the founders (congrats to them - great software!) This is the best example yet of YC's considerable ability to take a very deep tech, non-consumer startup, help vet and guide its technology and marketability
