In some cases there are other reasons for hoiting the dereference too. For example, Crystal will check if the array access is out of bounds and by hoisting variables that will be done a lot less seldom, which can have huge effects for code

Wait groups is a feature that was added to go quite long ago, so the claim that it doesn't match the language philosophy seems more than a little bit strange. Or were you just talking about making them obligatory? I've seen claims

There is a world of difference between "can be done" and "can be done well". Existing building blocks typically is good for the former but often not the latter, or you have to exercise a good amount of judgement when pie

Well ok. The topic of generics were strangely absent from the channel discussion. That is an alternative solution to the type issue. Adding those is like killing a mosquito with a bazooka, but there are languages (like crystal) that has gen

Venv tries to do too much and manages to not be great at anything, which is a direct contributing factor to Python being worst in class by a wide margin when it comes to packaging and dev environments.

It opens up for faster support once there is a new model though. So it seems more of a long term good than a short term one.

And in addition there are vast parts of the API that is deprecated and no longer used, with basically no documentation of what should not be used.

No, Indian English is absolutely horrible to understand (for me, Swedish). It just sounds all wrong and you use strange word selections pretty often. The thing about accents is that they are easy to understand for people coming from languag

What? The same laws that protect workers from being fired for being in a union keep them from being involuntary joined to a union or any other association unless they want to. Freedom of association is very strong in Swedish law.

The problem is exactly that Tesla refuses to bargain with the union. Once you are dealing with the unions you will be safe from sympathetic strikes.

And protection against that is one of the things a company gains by making a collective agreement with a union. Without such an agreement, it is a grand melee between companies and unions.

I found the use of poetry a bresh of fresh air compared to the usual python silliness. Painless, as opposed to getting the cuda stuff working which took a lot longer.

The hard part was getting CUDA and torch to work. The package itself was just poetry install. Easy-peasy.

I know it is included. The problem is that the available selection of languages is not good enough to include any of the languages I need it for. There is only support for a handful of languages.

Impressive. It would be nice to have access to a spellchecker with support for more languages though. But the results are pretty good despite that.

The thing is that when you get good at it the overhead will go down drastically. And the practice will make it easier and faster to extract small pull requests out of your main work that can be reviewed separately.

Good list of best practices. I only miss 'git rebase --preserve-merges' from the text. It is pretty nifty sometimes when you actually want the merges to stay around.

The thing about naming is that it is so closely related to how the problem domain (not business domain, though they are of course related) is understood, and how well it is conceptualized.
