One problem they really need to address though is that as soon as you put everything in a single compilation unit, then compilation is single threaded and dog slow. Compilation units maybe make sense for C and C++, but for other languages t

Oh, that looks really neat. No support in mutter yet, though I haven't seen any dismissal either, so who knows if it will eventually gain support.

This is inconvenient for someone writing a custom client as it is yet another feature to support, but it really doesn't matter for anything that involves framerates unless you start to change the cursor every frame or so. Normally you

Then the cursor doesn't change while it is above the app. You can still move it.

Or even better - remove features and then let someone else implement them.

The stance of EU is clearly that you should not have to do business with Apple to publish to the iPhone. As such, no one forces Apple to do any business with Epic.

They are very intentionally choosing to put that responsibility in the client. It is very irritating and their choice (as opposed to other compositors that support the decoration protocols) is one of the bigger sources of Wayland fragmentat

If it is essential to their business, people can and will try to convince themselves and other people of just about anything, regardless of how ridiculous the arguments are.

The customers of Apple pay for their phones. Spotify is not a customer of Apple (more than whatever they buy for their employees). No further payments need to be involved.

Nice. I can imagine certain ISPs (that I will not shame by name) won't be very happy right now. This really throws a wrench in some proxy models. Good riddance.

I expect it will have effect fairly often - DISTINCT is something less experienced developers often add to fix their bad queries, and generally the first thing I do when I start to improve performance is to rewrite it to not have to do that

You use bundler to manage what dependencies are installed and use that to get a lock file. You also create a .ruby-version file that specify the language version. There are a whole bunch of different tools to select what ruby version, but a

Yeah, I link against C libs because reimplementing the protocol seemed like a pain in the ass. The prevailing strategy seems to be to generate code based on XML protocol specs, and I'd prefer to avoid that crap. That would probably be

Another big reason is the lack of value types in languages like Java. Modern languages with a GC tend to have those, and where it makes sense to use them they help, a lot.

Well, you'd have to move a whole lot of code generation from load time to compile time, including the stuff based on db layout. So quite a bit of work.
