I stopped caring about 'paradoxes' ever since I understood there's no isomorphism between pure mathematical concepts and human language.

Not only that, Google also does keyboard-layout mapping if you forgot to switch your keyboard layout before searching. For example, if I want to search in Hebrew for "חיפוש בעברית" but accidentally typed in English and typed "jhpua gchcr,"

Lots of very interesting talks lined up for this year's conference. Personally, I'm very much looking forward towards the keynote by Evgeny Morozov. Pro tip: yours truly will be giving a talk on what can be done with the publicly available

This really seems like something that should be in the scope of a pull request, or several of those.

Probably inspired by my comment earlier [1] about how Linus comitted the first version of git in git [2]. I find it fascinating that systems can be bootstrapped upon their own foundations. [1] - http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=327707

Without going into the specifics of the GRPN stock, I like the meta-ness of the concept. (i.e. 'strange loop') Kind of like git being developed on git [1]. [1] - http://git.kernel.org/?p=git/git.git;a=commit;h=e83c5163316f...

I cannot begin to imagine the intensive research that went into this infographic, and props to Randall for the work. But for the life of me, navigating this thing in tile form is beyond me.

I can't recommend Prey enough. 2 days after my laptop was stolen, I was able to locate it, perp was arrested (probably to be released later on, don't know, don't care) and I got my laptop back.

Sorry, I call BS. I might have just been lucky enough to always work at professional companies and startups where this kind of stuff can never happen. But something tells me there is no reasonable way an SQL query can grow to these proporti

You are absolutely correct. But Groupon doesn't give that impression. The impression you get from a Groupon is "I got this really good deal for $10, why would I want to return for $20?" In a classic ad the full price is stated upfront. You

It would have been advertising if it had a longlasting effect. Consider that once you do a groupon for a 20% < discount, it is going to be very hard to get that customer again for the full price of the product. So what do you get fr

I would wait for v.1.4.1 before upgrading. Issue #538 [1] is a showstopper in v1.4.0 for anyone using bootstrap via the less.js compiler (and not the precompiled CSS files). [1] - https://github.com/twitter/bootstrap/issues/538

Though nothing would delight me more than to be able to hack my cars open-source firmware, I can't see that happening by a long shot. Security-by-obscurity is still a - supposedly - valid claim nowadays.

Exactly. 'Legal tender' is just a matter of perspective. If tomorrow the US economy flops, US Dollars plummet in value. In a fictitious world where government-controlled money lost all value, bitcoin is the alternative. And sure, bitcoin ha

I beg to differ. How is a bitcoin different from a Dollar? A Dollar is a piece of paper denoted with an acceptable value. Bitocins are mined on a GPU, Dollars are printed on paper. You cannot guarantee that dollar is indeed backed by a piec
