Android also charges a fee for Play Store distribution, as do most platforms - not just mobile app ones. The cost of doing business on a platform does not mean no one should do it - like literally all other businesses.

Huh? We’re discussing the equivalent of tradespeople who need a high quality drill to work instead of cheap knockoffs or worse, no tools.

They always have had a “soft” sessions limit per month anyway, so it still doesn’t make sense to limit weekly.

Is it really that interesting to point out for every Chinese oss model release?

Why would a malicious actor not be willing to setup the same infra as you, with an app on the iOS store to mine data once consented? I don’t see how api usage difficulty is a real security feature…

Most agents solutions have modes or roles already. There’s no standard, but this is already being used IRL. Heck, even system prompts are role play too.

Hmm, but this provably works right now though? All LLMs perform better with roleplay direction and focused scope. Using coding agents with plan then execute makes noticeable quality improvements.

Very confusing if it’s actually open source or not - couldn't find any links.

IME, on a daily basis, Claude Code (supposed SoTA agent) constantly disables and bypasses tests and checks on my codebase - despite following clear prompting guidelines and all the /woo/ like ultrathink etc.

I used to have a tricked out latex setup on Ubuntu and completely migrated over to TexStudio when I got a Mac - highly recommend it too!

Dunno - to me it feels like the latex compiler should just run whatever it needs to for however many times until the output is done/usable, like basically all other compilers?

I’m not a big fan of online performative self-hate and classic elite-liberal virtue signaling, so maybe this article and these replies are not for me.

Follow-up: All these replies missed my point. I’m not saying tech is blameless, rather that the press constantly criticizes tech for both doing too much and doing nothing and not fixing society. I would argue that this is toxic and ignores

Libraries are made to be used as the base for the actual application. I checked your GitHub link - no clue how I’d use it without coding an entire solution.

You’re right! Luckily everyone on HN works in the IT basement, so they can stay blissfully ignorant about how their company ever makes any money from the exquisite code they’re writing…

Vaccine ads are a great example, in that large parts of the population consider them as fake propaganda. Trump supporters were up in arms against Biden/Dems for promoting vaccines during COVID. With your logic RFK Jr would be very happ

Congress has a limited amount of time and attention unfortunately, so omnibus bills are very common. That doesn’t invalidate the contained legislature. I don’t agree with the widespread usage of such “tricks”, but I do understand the harsh

In a discussion thread about Meta (which follows EU law) launching an app in the EU using their alt App Store laws; why would you further move the goalpost just for arguments sake?

> HN is very actively moderated I explicitly did not mention HackerNews, as the homepage feed is primarily based on user voting - neither algorithms nor chronology. Dang’s moderation is not comparable to other social media platform’s fee

Ads can be inserted into any kind of feed, there is no difference between chronological and algorithmic. It’s usually a simple calculation of target ads displayed per posts viewed, with per user/advertiser caps.

I really don’t agree with this - chronological sorting favors larger/power users who spam their content through all hours of the day, versus smaller users that you probably care more about.

This is true for all social media algorithms. None of them are purely automated and for good reason. You need humans going in and tweaking the outcomes to ensure users have a good experience. Of course, when the conversation is about TikTok
