The fun thing is how this is thanks to an economy based on consumption and IP, making higher profit margins good. My favorite however is the Betamax case from the 1980s. I wonder how lawyers took over in the first place.

Thinking about it, the Bell System break-up came after we got off the gold standard and running a trade deficit and I think many of these acquisitions are based on debt, including corporate bonds.

Yea, and they still had to do security updates for it in the meantime. I guess that is part of why they "un-discontinued" it.

It is funny how the US focuses on "intellectual property" over selling actual goods. We have been running a trade deficit since the 1980s I think. This reminds me of patent trolls for example.

And most of that happened after the US ditched the gold standard in 1971, and part of the reason for that was a budget deficit. And the other countries often had FX reserves, only fueling the overcapacity and reducing bond yields.

I think the main problem now is the trade deficit. Many countries invest the FX reserves in things like bonds, driving the yields down and encouraging investment in things like stocks. This is part of why higher profit margins are good for

I don't like anti-discrimination laws that go much beyond that though. They were really designed for manual labor jobs and the like. A law that prevents employers from asking questions is easily enforceable.
