I used dropdowns as an example for a deceivingly simple UI element. You cannot build a complete dropdown without JS: you need to track keyboard events. As I answered the other sibling comment: those developers already are UI/app devs i

My comment a little bit rushed. What I meant is not that an HTML+CSS dev cannot move to the other side, but that the frontend developers I saw in the last ten years falled in the one of the two categories. Those willing to move to UI/

I’m gonna put here a timid «I call bs on this». First of all: HTML+CSS is indeed pretty complex. When you care for A11y, Responsiveness, Performance, Maintenability, complexity rises as a cartesian product. But if you introduce interactions

I’ll share my process: 1. The first interview must not be a technical assessment — identify shared interests, look for collaboration opportunities. You need to understand if the person in front of you will be someone you would work with for

I have the same exact aliases but they check for a Git or SVN repo and then use the right tool accordingly. I also have `..`, but also `...` which maps to `cd ../..`

I keep returning to dev projects exactly for this. To the OP, do not underestimate this.

That one hit for me too. We mostly stopped at 1995 with a small leap in 2007 (ZUIs coming from iPhone OS). Current experiments are more or less a remix of those two — interface less (assistants) are incredibly far away in the future to be a

Just my 2 cents after no more than 10y of career. The idea of letting other grow has nothing to do with resonating with them and form a bigger wave — you need to really want them to succeed and really fight for that to happen. In my persona

May I say there's something _poetic_ in the whole thing? The way the petals open to release the animal is touching, and resembles how you'd free a butterfly that has come to rest on your hand. Deeply fascinated.

Import statements must be asynchronous in the latency-controlled environments (mostly browsers). CJS is by definition synchronous and has different order semantics when treating execution of an asynchronous loader.

Not as much interesting, but was astonished to know that we know the name of the Titanic paper boy. There’s a incredibly sad story on his death too: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/6364763/edward-john-parf...

Probably on the same lines of the sibling comments, but here's my 2 cents. (I'm the design lead at software company, strong fronted dev background) I believe that design should never be a creative process — when it is it means you

I’m going to be a little bit pedantic, but that’s untrue. On React (DOM, Native…) you create your widgets with React, and compose them as components. If you need to go deeper (for some specific perf issue, usually for animation stuff) then

Actually in such a case Domenic would have transferred the ownership of the package anyway, probably retaining some power in the process, but the major harm would have been done already.

This was, from the eyes of npm Inc. and everyone else a completely legitimate ownership transfer. There was a "human error" (Domenic trusting the wrong person) that was completely unpreventable by technological means. There was n
