We know for a fact that pedophiles, kidnappers, and murders exist. I think we just always thought we could sniff them out by knowing our community. That was probably a false sense of security all along. Now we mostly live in communities too

Agreed. I sometimes feel tense crossing big box parking lots where mostly no space has been designated to walking. Imagine a small person surrounded by pickup trucks and SUV’s from which they’re completely invisible.

My mobile phone’s voicemail is configured to accept zero recorded messages, and my no-answer/busy recording asks callers to text or email me. I’ve had no issues with this setup. Everyone’s in the same boat so I think people immediately

I can’t speak to that timeline but I’ll add that I have a use-hate relationship with Reddit. It’s a source of great information and misinformation, caring and callousness.

I don’t think the analogy is correct. One is an abstraction to remove low level commands and the other is a GUI that applies the same commands.

If I need something to look good as text without any rendering I write text (a .txt file). Even the most basic features of markdown (inline code, italics, etc) look pretty nasty without post rendering.
