I'd wager that one of the big variables is proximity. At college, you eat, go out, party, study and do all of the mundane stuff together with a close group of people. At work, after hours you may go get some drinks, but you are not goi

> True, but you can do redundancy for cheaper with parity or tape. At this volumes you probably do want a carbon copy at another site to mitigate disasters like datacenter fires.

Developers may have a reason to upgrade (many don't as ssh isn't going to get any faster-er with a fancy new CPU), but they constitute the part of people that read tech news. This is a minuscule part of general population. Compili

Sadly, with the current trends I think the device will be more likely rendered by an irreparable hardware failure before it reaches end of life due to speed.

That is really a problem only if you watch tech news. In reality people use computers for years, so having a 4 or 5 year old tech doesn't really matter that much.

Having a literal moonshot as a goal does bring in useful technology on the road. Reusable rockets are one example.

> Never mind the whole issue with heat and battery life where AMD is miles behind. That's just false. AMDs newer U models have TDP and performance per watt at the same level as the M1. Apple has other advantages with the M1 (like ru

Also "cheap models" sell more than expensive models, which was always the case. Apple has stated that the MacBook Air is their most popular computer on multiple occasions.

Sure. I think that (especially modern) art, can have as much meaning as the observer wants it to have. The artist may have some initial thought about what idea they want to express, but once their work is out there, they lose the control ov

Isn't it kind of hard to talk about information density when it comes to art?

I'd be interested in examples of modern, minimalist design systems that put function before form. e.g.: clear separation of actionable vs non-actionable elements, proper links and such.

It goes the same for a lot of indie apps, of which there are tons. Flat design levels the playing field.

Personally I like either fiction books or historical/biographies-kind. Books that try to teach me something often do feel like a chore. (e.g.: i'm trying to read GEB after all the recommendations, but I just can't get into it

Since such a screen would be most usable outdoors, I wonder about the setup. I guess if it'd be light and thin enough it could be put on top of the screen in that case? Or would you have a separate stand for it?

For a consumer it is better to look for benchmarks in the specific field that interests them anyways. The numbers at this moment show that AMD is kicking up intel's ass in both performance-per-watt and price. The only thing intel has s
