This weird user interface décisions also completely negate all that talk about speed. On iOS you now have to tap through a submenu with animations to do anything. (Share, Private Mode, Reading list…) the tab groups are useless as they are a

I have the ergo chair 2 from autonomous and quite like it. However the armrests are quite mediocre, they are hard plastic and are quite loose. I’ve been looking for pads to put on them but so far I’ve not seen anything that looked like it w

A clarification as there seems to be some confusion: Whether VPNs solve the issue or not is irrelevant to my point. Their primary advertised feature is to hide your traffic from your ISP, McDonalds or whoever, and people buy them. (Secondar

The Deck was such a thing. It was sort of invite only because once you go first party you have no way to validate the user base so you need to trust the partner. For ads that result in direct sales this can be easy to do though.

There might also be a skew due to COVID. Many single people moved back in with their parents because why not, no rent to pay and you can WFH anyways. And it’s not like the social life would go anywhere.

Ah yes, I meant return to Freenode. IRC need not be booming, but since it isn’t the "burn to the ground and rebuild" strategy will not work. As you said, communities is what matters and once they have moved they have little reason

IRC is not exactly booming. Those who have fled during this exodus will probably not return. And trying to get people who don't already use IRC on board will be even more difficult.

You could also build a community around a static site generator (and maybe a hosted version), where everybody would pledge to not customise anything except a set of offered css variables. Then federate those blogs somehow. Though I somehow

There are tech startups and then there are "burn cash by subsidizing the 10% using VC money" startups. Uber is the latter and imo the role of the investor is to be able to distinguish which one is which. However there is a case wh

It has problems. If you have an idea that will take you a year to develop with 10 people, you need one million up front (simplifying a lot). But if the investors only give you 250k, they you need to spend time working on getting that missin

The major problem in EU is not really starting the companies. Most countries have ways to incorporate by filing a form and sending an email or two. The problem though is financing, French investors for example are really stingy and you won’

I’m not claiming we are more innovative as a result. As a result we have much better mobile plans for example. Every time I see a Ting ad I marvel at how expensive their plans are, and then they compare that to the likes of Verizon…

The article, most people here, and the reality disagrees with that. The point is that all the giants are elsewhere. Case in point as mentioned elsewhere: we actually have ISP competition here.

In these cases the problem is also that the legal system is slow. For genuine take down requests time matters.

When you know the recipe for a bread you can make another one and maybe add or remove some ingredient. If you only have the loaf then indeed you can't reverse engineer the recipe unless you are a very experienced baker. Same with code.
