The amount of sleepless nights because an update broke sound, video or networking on Linux is uncountable. It was fun though.

Happens. Had an idea (simple and stupid one), built it (with LLMs) went to register the domain. Found out somebody had the same idea and already put it there :)

In my experience just telling people to enable Google / Apple backup for photos is a chore at 5€ a month. And for general public this covers 90% of their needs.

At this point? I’d like it to pass the Turing test and catch you in obvious lies. Not answering “no” to “can you hear me”. It being able to comfortably say “i don’t know how to do this” rather than boiling and ocean to pick a shell from the

I respect their decision. I’ll move my private slop repos to a self hosted instance. I don’t think that features like tickets and mailing lists matter for vibe coded projects anyway. They are made for an audience of one.

I live in France. That kind of aircon is garbage both in how much it can cool a room and how efficient it is due to under pressure. You can get a portable split-system if you have a balcony. But installing a real full-size AC with a large e

I subscribe to nebula. However what i would really like to have is to automatically mark any videos watched on nebula as watched on YouTube.

I’d recommend reading “How to make the world count” instead of a work of a morally bankrupt guy who used the very same tricks he criticized to discredit the cancer studies of tobacco usage.

“The market” is historically short-sighted and policy makers also can’t see beyond the next election date.

Fair point. Outsourcing was not the right word to use, China today makes products over all quality ranges and almost always they are cheaper than any other alternative. “Giving away” would be a better word.

Yes and no. Having more competition in the space is excellent news. However I am sad that the world interdependence is eroding as most other countries seem to sit on their hands and happily outsource every bit of manufacturing to a single c

17 is a weird age but ymmv. I left home at 16 alone to study abroad. I had tons of free time due to dorm curfews and such. Unfortunately, I was too poor to have a computer and the computers we had access to were completely locked up. (Natur

I use Claude, codex and antigravity pretty much interchangeably. For iOS I used Gemini 3.7 flash to build almost everything with good success, but had to reach for Opus to fix a rather tricky audio engine problem (missing function annotatio

I think there are better ways to teach this particular skill than homework. But I agree that practicing is very important. In hindsight I think that the concept of TD (classes where you only do exercises and have a teacher guide you if need

I think it’s neat but at the same time I’m cautious about implementing an “almost feature” in what’s supposed to be a declarative language. Now everybody needs to support it and nobody can really use it. I’m talking about the features in wo

It absolutely hates code that would crash or error in any circumstance. So it adds a ton of dubious fallbacks.

Others have said this too but LLMs are the best approximation of magic we have. We etch runes on stones, put electricity through them and then try to “convince” them to do our bidding. The answers vary wildly sometimes depending on minutiae

Yeah. That worked before when most villages had a doctor or a clinic. In France (and my native country too) at least the situation is getting bad. You can look up medical deserts. Driving to another part also often implies having someone to

Clarkson’s farm did have a section about this. That said, you know what I meant. I have several burnt out friends who went “farming” and I assure you, programming combines and drones is not the thing they meant by going away.

Not enough software engineers converting to farming? Shocking. If anything else, for me the main issue in France is the dearth of doctors in rural areas. So even the romantic idea of retiring in quaint village is predicated on not getting s

This, for some reason makes too much sense. So much so that I’m curious if there is some sort of world wide conspiracy to not do this. If more people were employed during less time, we would also need more administration. Not to mention tha
