I think it's the sheer amount of programmers using JS. It's also a very approachable language, so it makes it easy to learn the language before learning good practices.

I guess it's too early to tell. But even when I was in uni, "not being on facebook" (back when facebook was relatively new) was heavily penalizing. And we were adults.

My problem is that I only want 1 monitor for everything. For work I want a high res screen because I really don't like blurry text. For games I would like a high frequency one because it's well... better. 5K has the advantage of d

I wish they made the screen 120hz and support hdmi or display port. 5K@27” has the sweet advantage of integer downscaling to 1440p, which is quite ideal for games unless you have a really top of the line graphics card.

A lot of us don’t like such massive screens. For me 27” is ideal.

Hm. I feel like this is more of a cautionary tale to always limit even unlimited licenses, if you depend on a third party not changing anything.

The main problem is probably the color, maybe somehow capping the maximum brightness would be doable.

Games are to be written, packaged and sold. Not continuously maintained to keep system compatibility. Apple philosophy of dragging developers into the future clawing and screaming is fundamentally incompatible with games. (64 bit transition

That is a weird criticism. A document is clearly not a webpage, main use of Google docs is easy collaboration and that’s not really a thing with html. Most people would not set up something like a git repo to track changes and comment on th

Once a Hugo update broke my website. So what I did was to take the latest version of the binary, and chugged it in the repo with the site code. Now I just never update. Also helps with the urge to tweak things instead of writing (not that I

I really like this one. My hope is that the upcoming Play date console would be full of these kinds of “I have 30 seconds and want to play a game” jewels.

It would be a better control mechanism. NeuroSky (the headset used here) is only good as an eye blink detector and even at that it’s not great. EEG reading on the forehead, without gel is always really bad because there are no obviously int

iOS strongly opposed exposing the traditional file system but eventually caved in (with the Files app), as for non-trivial use cases it is simply the better way.

I think it's both the effect and the cause. Even personally I'd rather use a program that looks nice as compared to one that does a little bit more but is ugly. So better looking ones will have larger audiences, and thus to get a

Mine would be, that the software was simple and rather bad looking in general, so as a hobbyist developer that level of sophistication seemed achievable. (Not that I ever did achieve it, but it was not discouraging like today)

CICO mostly doesn’t work if you count the calories wrong. But if you don’t eat 1000kcal under your actual TDEE, there is little chance you will not lose weight (barring severe health problems). If you metabolize less or more doesn’t really

As alluded in the comments on that bug, people sometimes actually use animated gifs but almost nobody does the animation via CSS. That said I can't even remember the last time I saw an animated favicon.

My reaction was with regards to the parent’s question, sorry if it came out as flippant. If those are indeed the planned locations for expansion then it’s even worse for Starlink because nobody over there needs it.

There is no way that getting a satellite connection inside a city is cheaper or more practical than a physical line though. It will be necessarily slower, have worse latency and be more expensive.

I doubt it. At this price basically the only customers are in rural US and CA. And, by definition, this is not very many people.

Never seen a place with a "default". If you ask for pizza it would be exactly like the root comment said. Even if you were to ask for no-toppings you still have to choose whether you want a cream or tomato base.

Honestly, the fact that I no longer snag my earphones on random protrusions, like doorknobs and bus ticket validating machines is a bliss. Cables inside at a desk: sure, why not. Cables outside: hard pass.
