Brahms destroyed a whole bunch of his works out of his own insecurity that they were not good enough. Brahms is now long dead but his (that were not destroyed) works live on.

This is more like if an annotated original script of A New Hope were to find its way into the hands of a fan and s/he gave it back to Disney instead of copying it.

I'm pretty sure everything you could ever want to learn to be a good engineer is out there on the internet for you to be read for free. Ranging from entire degree courses, to giant open source projects and even blog posts on how to get

With someone like Sheryl Sandberg heading up Facebook's operations, it would be hard to believe that there weren't mandates to achieve gender parity starting from the top. That Facebook hasn't achieved gender parity yet would

I imagine you are speaking from the interpersonal experience, which I know to be a terrible one. Once you're in "management" teams and entire divisions become numbers in your P&L, not humans. What's more, once you&#x

I am familiar with the concept of the glass cliff, but when things are going smoothly, why would a company (which we already know are statistically mostly run by men) change leadership? If leadership mostly changes during times of turmoil,

I can't really disagree with anything you're saying. Wrt to only males going through NS, I can imagine someone in the Sg govt making the assumption "if all men go through NS and bond, then when they start families, their wive

From what I've seen, genius for me can be reduced to "what one is able to achieve in some dimension with a limited amount of instruction". I subscribe to the idea that someone can be taught to do anything, given enough time a

Actually, I'd argue that something like NS, its merits not being discussed here, does do good for social cohesion and cultural integration. When everyone is (relatively) equal and put through something comparatively arduous, it does go

Maybe the engineering community as a whole be better for it if so much duplication of work wasn't going on behind closed doors. Sure, you don't want to publicize things which could be a competitive advantage to your company, but I

I arrived at the same conclusion when I realised that YouTube no longer buffers the video all the way through to the end on mobile anymore. I miss being able to buffer a (long) video for offline playback when riding public transport.

Beat me to it. I am sure a large part Netflix's success is how seamless its products are: there's minimal to no loading time and the video stream is virtually always smooth - including during times of action/high frame rate.
