One thing I've noticed is that people in the UK are way more considerate about and sensitive to noise whereas the opposite is true to Asians. Go to China and the level of ambient noise is much higher, whether that is people talking lou

For some reason my brain thinks it's dangerous to run the AC when the car is stationary. I don't think this is the case and I'm complecting it with something else - is anyone able to shed some light?

Yep memoized selectors was on my list of things to look at - great tip! My philosophy is when providing the POJO from the immutable data structure is to select the absolute minimum from the bigger object, which I suppose is in line with you

I agree - I use ImmutableJS in one of my projects and the pros vs cons are substantial - it's hard to keep track of when something is Immutable or not and it has been slowly infecting more and more of my codebase. I would be interested

If I had to guess: that macros in LISP are natural, owing to the fact that its syntax are all s-exps which make it parsing it easier than in other languages?

Lots of science-only hecklers here. Seems to me to be a bit arrogant to think science holds all the answers and that holistic treatments are devoid of value? Should we ideally strive for scientific rigour in everything we do? Yes. Does quan

Well for starters, a Japanese speaker can tell the differences between God "kami" and paper "kami"... A monotonal, monotempo sound would not be able to make that difference audible https://en.m.wikipedia.org&#

I suspect keeping ambulance at standby was more of a hotfix for a bug, than a feature. Yes Amazon is frugal, but I think it is a bit of a stretch to assume there was malicious intent in not cooling their FCs. In a giant warehouse managed by

In the UK, an NHS GP gets about 20 minutes per patient including admin time for prescription + updating medical records.

I disagree. There's a subtle difference between breathing cadence and inflection, and a completely monotempo monotonal string of sounds.

While you'd be a very brave or silly individual to try to reimplement BLAS yourself, there is definitely value in knowing how to implement any library for yourself. If programming is behaviour and data, then the deeper and broader your

From reading other comments, it sounds like the programming equivalent to coding a product without any tests, validation, exception handling. Risky and very likely to lead to a unrecoverable spaghetti mess, but we've all been in that s

Yep - imagine a world where most the top search results are subscription only. That's a terrible UX for a Google searcher to have to go past page 1 to actually have content. Google definitely doesn't want that, and its also anti-o

I could live with this reality. As citizens, we will more or less be at the mercy of government to some extent, if only due to the scale of their operations. I see this as the equivalent to governments having access to tanks, artillery, air

What were your main takeaways from SICP? While it certainly espouses a functional style, I found the greatest lesssons to be higher level, focusing on abstraction. Though I have limited knowledge of C and Java so would be keen to hear your

I can see your point, but I think you are glossing over nuance that is specific to tech. The Internet is pervasive and technology is ubiquitous. With a single gun, a man can only kill as many people as he can see with the number of bullets
