I think point 2 is often handled by assuming everything that happens outside of our solar system (or wherever you choose to draw the line) is 'faked' in such a way that we couldn't tell.

but most of that code isn't iterating. the only parts in that function i see that are iterating ([0] and the similar loop below it) seems straightforward enough to me. i don't see how they would help here unless i don't kno

honestly, i think it's hard to say this generally without more context into the code. imo nothing there looks too egregious (or at least not abnormally so) for very low level code.

For splitting, there's a balance you need to strike. Split things up too far and the errors are definitely harder to detect. IMO rote splitting usually doesn't simplify, it just hides the complexity.

Worth noting you should probably disable -Werror for distribution if you expect users to compile your code. They aren't going to fix your error for you and you can't know what warnings will be added to future compilers, nor what p

It exists, although it's often phrased more kindly. For example, complaining about lifetimes is often met with a comment that you probably don't understand them yet.

This would be in violation of the standard (in a way that would cause a lot of things to render wrong -- anybody who was rendering correctly would now be wrong!), and also it isn't practical in most cases. It's a common misconce

Should as in "it would be nice"? Maybe. Should as in it does already and this sort of thing is unnecessary? Definitely not. Hence EXT_sRGB.

Right, but you can't implement a lot of the APIs without calling into private kernel functions.

It's hard to know what the right call is here. In most cases the battery life hit seems to be fairly minimal (I've never noticed it in any browser, even back when I used chrome), and preventing data loss is, well, fairly important

Nothing, but you couldn't implement an alternative SDK using the public APIs, since, well, the public APIs are the current SDK.

Yes, IIRC. They're still imperfect and can lag the browser quite a bit IME, but what can you do... Switching to a different password manager is not easy, and the ones I've looked at all have this/other problems.

Is there a way to ensure that the amount of time you set aside for GC is, err, enough? I imagine the outcome of it being insufficient would be quite bad... eventually.

It's more problematic in languages that encourage allocation since you have to work more to avoid it. I've done game development in C++, C#, and JS, and I had to worry about memory management far more in JS than in C# or C++, simp

If Photoshop was Maya, Blender would be much better than GIMP. IMO Blender is still worse than Maya (but not by that much), although Maya is also substantially worse than Photoshop -- to make a bit of an apples to oranges comparison.

A lot of the implementation defined behavior can be ensured with static assertions (either via new-fangled C11 _Static_assert or via the old fashioned negative length array hack), particularly WRT sizes.

You can go through a convoluted process to get the documentation for the standard from Adobe (Someone where I used to work did this so we could add support for PSD to a game engine). I'll concede that that's unpalatable, and that
