My team is developing full stack apps with Clojure, and using Clojure on the backend with ClojureScript on the frontend is completely seamless. I copresented a talk on the platform my team develops and how we leverage Clojure features there

Obviously we should take action against all kinds of threats. My point is that the reaction to this virus is completely disproportional to the level of the threat. Meanwhile, lack of reaction to an actual existential threat we're facin

This virus is not a threat to long term survival of the human species by any stretch of imagination. Meanwhile the collapse of our biosphere is an existential threat. What's more, we know that we have a very short window to make any me

I don't really see anything worrisome about that actually. This indicates that there is a stable community around the language, and while it would be nice for Clojure community to keep growing, it's very much sustainable at this p

I would pick Clojure over any statically typed FP language simply because it's far easier to train news devs for it. My team has been using it for close to a decade now, and we've only hired a single person who already knew Clojur

Yeah that's fantastic growth. I completely agree that the genie is out of the bottle now because with so many users there's a sufficient population of technical users who will develop, maintain, and host ActivityPub based services

I think that decentralization has to be the solution. Having a handful of websites run by megacorps was not how the internet was meant to work. The fediverse around ActiviyPub is looking very promising. Mastodon is the most prominent servic

Communication happens at server level where different instances can choose to federate with one another. Your account lives on a particular server along with the data associated with it such as your posts.

I really think that open source federated services are the future. There are now a bunch of these services all using the same protocol called ActivityPub. PeetTube is a YouTube alternative, PixelFed replaces instagram, Lemmy is an alternati

That is absolutely not the case. There's a huge difference between having immutable constructs available in a language and immutability being the default. Clojure is built around the idea of immutability from ground up. It makes it nat

My team used to be a Java shop, we adopted Clojure around a decade ago and never looked back. Not really sure what this whole compiler telling the developer what to do is supposed to mean to be honest. One of the advantages of using a Lisp

I had around a decade professional experience with Java before I started using Clojure. Within months I was able to easily tackle problems that were daunting for me in Java using Clojure. I having used many languages during my career, I def

On the other hand, these talented people chose Lisp over other options. Maybe their talent is also what let them recognize the value of Lisp, and that they would have a much harder time solving those problems with anything else.

It's not about designing a simpler language than C, but rather one that matches what hardware is actually doing better. The example in the article is how GPU programming works. To make the most out of modern hardware we need to change
