For most people I believe it's a good exchange for the value of a more secure device. But yes, I don't really want to pay Apple $100 a year just to run my apps. So I just have them as PWAs. Wouldn't work for many use cases, l

That's what I did after I realized how much I'd pay for managed databases and auth. I now have 3 VPS on Hetzner that run about $14/month in total (the old pricing, thankfully). I mostly got three so I wouldn't worry abou

Same thoughts here. About four years ago I started building an RSS reader that was supposed to use an algorithm. The problem is, I didn't code in years and wasn't familiar with the modern web stack. I had to drop it, although was

To be honest, no. In fact, the posts that I thought would be the most interesting don't get much attention. It's something I drafted in a single evening that suddenly gets into top-3 traffic acquirers for my blog.

If there's any purpose in hedge funds as a structure it's that they provide liquidity for the market. So it's in everyone's best interest to let them do price discovery against each other.

I like how Matt Levine formulated it. His thesis was correct. The problem is, his thesis was measured in years if not decades when his funding was measured in days and hours.

Work-life balance is more about work hours and purpose vs how quickly you're targeting to finish things, at least in my view.

I wish they'd spent more time on improving the UI now. It's largely been the same since Chrome appeared. Their recent vertical tabs are so much inferior to Dia, which is built by a much smaller team.

Venture-backed companies is an extremely small subset companies when you look at this objectively. The alternative is debt financing, and let me tell you, there's a lot more deadlines and urgency in there.

Because the antonym is stagnation. Work takes all the volume you give it. The best managers I worked with had at least one common feature: always giving deadlines to move things forward. Because you don't live on an empty planet. Other

Honestly looks far more obvious than the original to me. I like how ai agents make it possible to experiment with different game concepts. I merged Go with Tetris while brainstorming some ideas. https://goban.molodtsov.me/

Websites need cookies. I don't get why I have to suffer through this for a few puritans who literally lose nothing in the process of this transaction but act as if Stasi is watching them.

In fact, there's no scientific consensus research-wise on whether writing things by hand actually helps in any way. Anecdotally, it never helped me to remember the stuff I was writing down.

That would sound very reasonable except this is the same what people said first about Windows and then Android crushing Apple. And yet it's Apple that controls the top of the market and has the best margins in the business. This is the

YouTube empowers millions of creators around the world. It's more about the fact that at a sufficiently large scale any platform faces the same issues. Some creators are terrible without breaking the rules, people argue, etc.

Few founders do this and the ones who do are solving their own problems. For Anthropic it's primarily hiring. But as a PR person I can guarantee you it's not possible to go around such perception shifts through money alone.

On the Moon or even Mars it's a bit irrelevant because you're not following the Sun anyway. But let's talk sci-fi: what if there is a habitable colony where the day is 26h30m. What do you actually do?

They only struggle to make a profit because of investments into their future, basically: training, aggressive hiring of AI researchers. Anthropic seems to have 90% margin on their API pricing and all enterprise customers have to use this. A
