Yeah and spec isn’t trying to press the real world into arbitrary categories? /s The thing is, having some structure in terms of types or data shape constraints helps you model and understand your program. You can change them as your u

Yes, that's what I meant. I didn't mean an app that's never online (or connected to a server), since that doesn't really make sense in the context of this kind of framework, I meant something that is resilient to being o

Not to be a downer, but while I think in theory this sounds interesting, and treating frontend and backend differences as a DAG that is compiled for the different environments seems cool, I'm skeptical that it would actually be product

I would say it smells more like hot garbage than manure. But point taken, how is it missing from the list?! It’s surely more “worse” or unappetizing than most of first 50?

Right, I think so too. My point is more that moderation doesn’t imply being unwelcoming, and they are more or less distinct. A great example is HN, it’s a pretty welcoming place with good moderation, albeit at a much smaller size than SO.

No, it wasn’t “not ‘welcoming’”, it was just “not welcoming”. Sure it’s the owners who forced this, but it’s not a bad thing to be more welcoming and thinking otherwise because “it’s better” is problematic. You should also blame the owners

I think it depends on how you want to approach learning. If you want to learn in a systematic way and learn how to think about designing programs, and consider coding to be a natural byproduct of that, I would recommend a book such as How T

This ignores the cost of replacing code. I agree with your point that you should focus on the problem at hand, and not make code too generic, but if you only make specialized code with the idea of “we can rewrite or replace it later” you wi

In general these public salaries are not average over the whole company (which would be very heavily skewed by the executives’s salaries), but for a title or department. With that in mind, wouldn’t it make more sense to give the Nx engineer

Please define addiction for me. My point was not to say that all addictions are equal (they are not), and they act differently, but I think it's too simplistic to flippantly state that Internet addiction is not a thing.

I think this is a bit too simplistic of a way to look at it. Having sone debt is not necessarily bad, even outside of enormous purchases such as a house or car. First, c'mon, people don't (directly) finance sandwiches. Have you ev
