Amazing work from the author, as usual. For anyone who isn't familiar with the rest of Benedikt's work, it's absolutely worth taking a look at.

I wish there was more long-form writing like this in the gaming world (there's occasionally some good long-form stuff on Polygon that is great, but not quite like this). I haven't played Cave Story before, but after reading throug

See the CAP theorem [0]. Disque is designed to guarantee availability and partition tolerance, which according to CAP means Disque cannot guarantee atomic consistency (the C in CAP is not quite the same as either the A and C in ACID [1]) be

Not a stupid question at all! Not exactly the same approach, but there's been some recent interesting research on neural net and ML driven global illumination: [0] http://www.jiapingwang.com/files/shadebot_sig13.pd

Wait, why is she using a volt meter in that video? That's not useful information without knowing how many amps the system can push. I could probably get a volt meter to read 8 volts just from my hair after walking on carpet a bit, but

One of the aircraft named is the Kalinin K-7 [1], which is a favorite ridiculous aircraft of mine. It's the most literally "flying fortress" looking aircraft ever made. The design process for the K-7 was "add engines unt

This. In theory Cycles can be used to make the same kind of movies Renderman can. Please name a few examples of cases where this was done. On the flipside, when people say Renderman can be used to make production level stuff, they can point

Post updated with detailed list and links for each list item. At studios I've been at, we did tests with various renderers. Sure, we could have rendered a film in Cycles, but it would have taken much longer.

Could this potentially be a first step towards eventually replacing Gecko with Servo? If Firefox (the application itself) eventually resembles browser.html [1], swapping out Gecko for Servo would be much easier. [1] https://githu
