The examples in the wiki article show the difference pretty well. XPM lets you sort-of see what the image is just by looking at the source file. E.G. compare this static char blarg_bits[] = { 0x13, 0x00, 0x15, 0x00, 0x93, 0xcd, 0x55,

As of version 59, WebRender is enabled by default on NVIDIA. I've been using it for a while and haven't noticed any major issues.

I remember here in Canada there were concerns about this sort of thing when rolling out our proof-of-vaccination system, but practically speaking, the number of people with both the technical understanding and inclination to do this is sure

The search-unfriendliness of Go is particularly ironic given that it was created by Google.

Huh, I remember KDE included an editor with the same name back in version 3. I wonder if they changed it to Kate / Kwrite to avoid confusion.

On a similar note, I've heard that the words for animals, like cow or pig, tend to be Germanic while the words for their meat, like beef or pork tend to be Latin.

It seems a bit disingenuous to say "emacs can do everything" citing org, slime, and auctex, which are probably the three highest-quality extensions out there (maybe throw in magit too). In my experience this level of polish is not

A work-around I've been using on Linux is to set the GTK_THEME environment variable to the "high contrast" theme. With that theme it will draw a black outline around the focused tab.

It could also just be that people generally have fewer responsibilities and probably a higher risk tolerance earlier in life. Once you get into your thirties you might have a family, be more established in a given career path, be thinking m

I encountered this issue in the Google Keep application, which has a periodic reminder feature. I set a reminder for August 31, repeating monthly, but this results in it skipping months with 30 days as I discovered at the end of September.

This was an a well-written and interesting post, but the bug doesn't seem all that weird to me. I'm sure there are numerous race conditions lurking in decade+ old code that are waiting for someone to trip on them.

Is the choice of 16 as the "limit" value based on benchmarking? As opposed to just doing something like "!buffer[0] && !memcmp(buffer, buffer + 1, size - 1)" which uses the same principle.

Quirky as it is, I believe Terry Davis's TempleOS actually allowes REPL-style development in its C dialect (HolyC). I'm not sure how exactly it works, but it's able to compile and execute statements as you type them in.

I would have guessed seeing one product sold out would make other similar not-sold-out products less appealing. Like, if brand A is sold out but not brand B, I'm going to wonder what's wrong with brand B. Is it inferior in some wa

Completely unrelated to your point, but I had to check what "sourdough dressing" was. And, yeah, it's a salad dressing with bread blended into it. I've heard of doing that, but kinda want to try it now.

As I understand it, wlroots is more of a library that you can build a Wayland compositor on top of (sway being one example). It's not a compositor in and of itself. It still might be a good choice for LXQt if they do plan on supporting

Is Kwin usable without plasmashell / the rest of KDE? I always thought they were pretty tightly integrated. I feel we're currently missing a minimalist stacking Wayland compositor in the vein of something like openbox.
