I have no idea about your past, and I try to read your posts with an open mind, but it's starting to sound increasingly like you have a severe persecution complex. The entire company treated you like "human garbage" and didn't appreciate

Is it just me or do most of these sound like drug brands? My favorites include "paralytica", "effectiven" and "circumvenio".

Agreed, but it's possible (in theory, much like writing your own network stack).

It doesn't have to -- you can just have a loadable kernel module that takes over the network stack.

I never imagined that the nerd-flame-war that would cause me to take a HN break was over waking up in the morning, and not about bashing some poor database or microbenchmark.

Write down your questions as you're exploring this brave new world of computers. What excites you? What confuses you? What is the coolest thing you've learned today? In 20 years, it will help to know what the roots of your passion were.

I think he's predicting a Microsoft-like fate, where the indisputable de-facto of a market segment eventually stagnates and then is disrupted.

Drop a TrueCrypt partition into your Dropbox [1], and you get the Dropbox QoS as well as the encryption for your kids' swimming pool photos. Plus, for non-swimming photos, you can just use the regular Dropbox folder. [1] http://tonyonsecur

This looks a lot like the MongoDB query language, where an update is constructed as a JSON object with special key names.

Not sure what you're getting at. Google itself was started by two PhD students who are on semi-permanent "long-term absence".

There may be exceptions, but almost every single international student I've encountered pay state, federal, and social security/medicare taxes. Nobody has been tax-exempt.

This is about permanent residence. The government couldn't give a damn what a permanent resident thinks -- they pay taxes, but cannot vote at any level. So I don't really see your point about foreign interests. Also, not all green card hold

Here are a few of the problems (by no means comprehensive): The H1B Problem =============== * Foreign high-tech workers need a document called an H-1B visa. * A limited number of H-1B visas are handed out each year. * If more people apply t
