Thankfully the bar for inciting violence isn’t (at least wasn’t) just someone thought so.

The bar isn’t someone can interpret it as a threat. Anyone can claim to interpret anything as a threat.

Amazingly even this post is a reflection of the discourse around Kirk. There are replies equating any criticism of Kirk to celebrating his death and glossing over his past nasty behavior. All seems to detached from reality.

I think it's pretty smart actually. Altman has sort of linked the fate of OpenAI to that of Nvidia, AMD, Oracle, Microsft etc with these huge deals / partnerships. We've seen the impact of these deals on stock prices before e

I blame companies (including discord) for collecting as much information as they can instead of as little as possible. More data collected -> more data that will eventually get sold / leaked / hacked.

Agreed. Both my parents are getting older but live in different cities quite far apart from each other and me. Being able to virtually spend time together would be good if it’s realistic enough. During Covid I got into the habit of playing

That’s silly. I can spot a crashing plane (engines on fire, wings torn half off) without being able to predict where and exactly when it’ll crash. We can spot a bubble without being able to predict when it’ll pop.

Isn’t that pretty much the case for the Chinese system too? There were a bunch of speculation around what goes into the score, but from current reporting it’s all financial related too.

What's the cause and what's the effect? Less protests because ICE under Obama wasn't taking such a heavy handed and legally gray approach perhaps?

I'm not trying to be combative here; genuinely would like to see things from "the other side" here and have a rational discussion. Using some specifics, I see the following as wrong: 1. Doing mass detentions and checking pape

Might help if you specify which views you don't share? The fact that slavery etc was legal or that they were wrong or that citizens should oppose them?

What's moral vs what's legal aren't always the same thing. Especially in times like this, they get very quickly divergent. To the parent poster's point, the obligation of the citizen in a democracy (at least in theory) i

Without some strong general protection isn't that just 2 wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner? Seems at least some basic guaranteed rights and freedoms is needed.

To be honest, I don't think things would be much different. If Hamas took only military personnel hostage, the IDF would still be bombing Gaza and demanding they be returned. When Gilad Shalit was taken hostage Operation Summer Rains f

If Hamas attacked a military target on Oct 7th, killed 1000+ IDF personnel and took a few hundred more hostage, you don't think Israel will be bombing Gaza today? There isn't a way to prove either way, but I'm highly doubtful

History there has shown that other types of resistance don't work very well. Just need to look at the west bank. No Hamas, no rockets being lobbed into Israel and yes peace as long as the people there put up with their land being taken

A lot of problems with this. 1) As long as Israel treats Palestinians the way they current do, there will always be another Hamas. That or completely remove Palestinians from the area, which seems to be the current goal. So no, completely d

It's wild to me how many people here use the "it's war, bad things happen" to justify the situation. Weird that it needs to be said, but this is why war crimes are a thing. Just because it's an armed conflict, doesn
