I hear this sentiment quite a bit but I don't understand still. Can you explain a bit why (strongly) not believing in a deity is religious? I can hate God, because for instance I think religious belief has done a lot of harm, but how d

People have different opinions and are free to voice them. I’m not pro ccp (but here I feel the need to clarify up front), but it’s not hard to understand that some people view china more favorably than most in the US. At the very least it

Why do you assume the code isn't clean? Maybe if the code wasn't clean it'd take a couple of weeks instead of a couple of days to implement.

I think you need some data to support your argument here. How many criminals go unpunished because information can't be decrypted? What is the real cost to society because of lack of backdoors?

To be fair, the company's goal is to pay enough to attract and retain the right talent, not to keep up with inflation. e.g. if everyone else in the market is giving 0%, why would they give 6%? Also, I assume employees would be pretty u

Not just ecomm. I remember the days when customers would read their credit card numbers over the phone for small businesses (e.g. pizza joints). You'd write it down for processing later. The paper then gets disposed of at some point wi

Maybe also depends on the background of the poor person. I grew up poor. Definitely in the bottom 20% of income or wealth. However my parents were both very educated (immigrants), valued education, and I had a stable family life. I did well

If the comments in this thread is any indication, you can't please everyone. Do it in mass and some people will be pissed off. Do it 1:1 and others will be pissed off.

You seem to be letting your emotions rule and not following the thread you started. Your point was: vaccines don’t prevent infections. Even if vaccines were hypothetically 100% effective at preventing infections then there is still no point

Except in this thread, the hypothetical was: "where vaccines perfectly stop transmission and the virus is orders of magnitude more lethal". Also, way to move the goal post. Why is the requirement to stop a single case?

Would you be ok with not allowing unvaccinated people into certain places? e.g. a vaccine "license".

Except for people that can't get vaccinated, which while is a minority isn't a small amount. People have rights, unless those rights interfere with other people's rights. You don't have the right to be a walking bio weap

Talking to friends in China, they've been mostly open since the initial lockdowns. Every once in a while there are hard localized lockdowns, but majority of people majority of the time is life as normal.

The petit bourgeoisie were a tiny minority of the population. Most people were peasants. Is that what you’d prefer society to be like? If you want to redefine middle class to be small business owners and merchants that don’t depend on a sal

Seems like you are just redefining middle class. Middle class doesn’t mean not having depend on a salary.

Still sounds like a multi tenant system just with some dedicated shards. This is fine as long as the code based and db schemas are in sync.

Serious question, would that be realized wealth or on paper wealth? If some startup founders equity is worth a billion but isn’t liquid, do we tax that too?

Not common and certainly changing in some ways but for example smoking had been deemed high risk. There are ways to model the risk here for at least some activities. Eg do you have a lot of speeding tickets? Car insurance goes up.

So we shouldn't introduce any new drugs unless it's been tested for more than 10 years? Seems like a great way to put a complete halt on drug development and have more people die / suffer from preventable diseases.
