I agree, and this is more of what many other developed countries are doing with things like cheap or free education, social safety nets, wealth transfer etc. But the US seems to be allergic to all of those.

If there is an unfairness in obtaining opportunity, either lack of education opportunity or whatever, that seems like the right thing to address. Not at the end of the process and then trying to tilt things.

What's the proposed solution? Put a finger on the scale against the privileged group? By how much? for how long? Lumping any race together and treating it as the same is a problem in my view.

How do you know this? You think this is true for every white person? If so that IS racist.

And what do you imagine the effect of that "factor" would be? Taking offense to unfair firing practices also doesn't mean one doesn't take offense to unfair hiring practices. But the topic at hand is layoff, not hiring.

Unlike mountains, people are not nailed to the ground waiting to be carved out, they move when they get pushed by a slow but massive object. Only a tiny amount of the train's momentum will get transferred to the person, roughly 1mph x

That doesn’t sound right. A 1mph train hitting you won’t kill you, it’ll just push you along. The sudden acceleration of all or parts of your body is important.

I've had this type of person on my team before. Reading through the questions and rationales I can just picture that person asking the same questions and expecting the same answers. Technically capable and a pain to work with. Everythi

I think the road systems are pretty badly designed pretty much everywhere. Cross walks that cross 3 lanes (each side)with traffic going 40mph and no signal. Stop signs that doesn't tell you if the intersecting direction stops or not. H

I’ve found keeping expenses well below my means provide a great sense of freedom and autonomy. I don’t need to stay at a job I don’t enjoy and not having work means it’s not a big stressor. It also means I can be selective in the job I do e

Problem is who determines if it’s a smear campaign? The author claims it was, and I tend to believe him but I haven’t investigated. Have you? And then, how determines if it’s extreme enough to warrant some action? In the ideal world sure th

I'm not questioning that part. I don't know if stating that we'll never know about the origins of the universe is correct. I tend to agree personally that it seems premature. All I'm saying is that making (nearly) absolu

I don’t know if the statement is correct in this case but in general saying “we will never know” about a subject which we have incomplete knowledge isn’t a contradiction. I can say, we will never know what the first human that got to North

Serving Netflix streaming traffic from AWS would be… unwise. One the bandwidth cost would be enormous even if they can handle it. And two I doubt they can handle that much traffic.
