There has been quite a bit of effort in improving regex performance in .NET in the last few years. Stephen Toub has a few interesting (and long) articles: • https://devblogs.microsoft.com/dotnet/regex-performance-impr..

Browser vendors seem to prefer SVG to be a somewhat dumb vector format and already hate many of the more complex parts. SVG 2 originally intended to have a bunch of more interesting features, but eventually resistance from implementors (mos

I guess it's not so much the language that is complex. Indeed, it's pretty simple for the most part (although there are archaic warts few people ever need and modern features that sometimes feel like C versions of C++ features).

The question is photos is whether people want something close to reality or would they rather have an exaggerated, arguably more beautiful version of reality to remember and share? I guess unless you're doing journalism, arguing for le

Similar journey here (yWorks, with a diagramming library, too). In our case the journey comes with drawbacks, though. Yes, WebGL allows for larger graphs, but it also does not support the flexibility (to customers) the other options offer.

They do mention reduced power consumption in the opening paragraph. Usually executing the code you want to execute faster also translates to the CPU sleeping earlier again and this increased battery life.

The section about conservation in that article is quite fascinating. Apparently the worms are also missing because of pollution in that part of the Baltic Sea, and said pollution is now destroying the ship anyway.

I recently had to debug and profile an edge case with certain CSS that made applications using our library somewhat slow. And it all was due to style recalculations. Interestingly, it was mostly a Chrome problem and Firefox had not a single

Type suffixes on literals are fairly typical in languages using C-style syntax, so for JS I'd expect it to make more sense that way than doing it like Python does. Apart from the usual problems you'd get when your numbers suddenly

I may remember wrongly here, but wasn't ValueTask merely the go-to option when it's expected that the task would finish synchronously most of the time? I think for the really async case with a state machine you just end up boxin

The way we do it at work is to have a separate step before a tree layout that removes non-tree edges, lays out the tree, and then re-insert the edges and calculates separate routes for them. You can play with this here by adding new edges a

I think they have changed it so that you can by now create files with forbidden names and an extension. But that's a somewhat recent change. Also you could always create such names with the right APIs, so one application could create s

Insulation is probably the more important factor. If you don't lose too much heat to the outside, the heat pump doesn't even have to do that much. Or any other heat source, for that matter.

You can use an array to keep the doubles together. V8 has something like half a dozen different array types, depending on what is inside and how it's used.
