It's probably the map tiles from openstreetmap.de, which show names preferably in German. Unlike the tiles from openstreetmap.org, which show names in the country's native language by default.

Umlauts are always sorted like the base letter + e in German, so as are, or, ue. However, I think with accent-imsensitive they meant that accents that don't exist in German are simply ignored when sorting. So you wouldn't have Ger

Typical metro maps are quite complicated to automatically calculate. At least I know of no efficient algorithm and force-directed layout doesn't really work, since you want the stations in roughly the right place, especially relative t

In a similar case TypeScript even knows the signature of the event handler for addEventListener, and what type of Element document.createElement('div') returns. Someone even built typings for querySelector that parse the selector

Interesting. Something similar to this was my diploma thesis, although I wasn't able to find this as prior art. My intentions were mostly to have text adjust itself beforehand to the reader's preferences and pre-existing knowledge

I think the LaTeX compatibility came in a fairly recent version, but the usual Unicode-based syntax is already a lot easier to type (especially on non-US keyboard layouts) and read, since it's a lot more compact and uses whitespace to

Isn't that look mostly a mapping of the observed wavelengths into the visible spectrum? I think at least for some of those images the different colors correspond to different chemical elements, which makes for pretty images _and_ some

It's not an effect. It's a diffraction artifact that's a consequence of the telescope construction. Explained here for example: https://bigthink.com/starts-with-a-bang/james-webb-spikes/

I actually felt a little bad when I electrified my son's play kitchen to add lights and went for an Arduino Nano. That's a bunch of lights along with some programming (microwave timer and state machine, dimming when idle, undimmin

Mead is also called honey wine in German at least, so not exclusively fruit (at least if it's used with a qualifier). That's only in normal speech, though, as the trade name 'wine' is exclusively for grape wine.

Similar here; got my driver's license at 30. The first thing I noticed behind the steering wheel was that drivers in cars have basically zero visibility of their immediate surroundings due to the various pillars. Took me quite a while

I've found cycling in winter (with snow or ice) much easier with studded winter tyres (and some care ... can't go 25 km/h over ice with those, either).

The same may have been said about most other technologies introduced. The fact that a Windows .exe can do a lot more because it has access to DirectX doesn't invalidate the effort made in a demo of the same size made for the C64. There
