I lived in Houston for 6 months a few years ago while my girlfriend was student teaching there. It was so foreign to me that I couldn't find any semblance of a startup community in such a large city.

I agree, I would love to see more diversity in Des Moines but I think this is more a function of size; a smaller metro can't have a community of every culture. I have been waiting for a good Cuban place for far too long! But it's

There is no one silver bullet but I can tell you why I choose to live in Des Moines. For me it is about the community. I like building things. Here, in addition to building my own startup, I am part of a group of people working to build a g

What would it take to create a github integration that automatically accepts the pull requests in realtime? Looks like they're being accepted manually for now.

I don't know of a generic tool that does this but you could create one in a couple of minutes in your scripting language of choice. Go here and generate yourself a token for your account: https://developers.facebook.com/

Where would one even go to place such a bet? Also, how can you assess the counter-party risk here? You're letting someone hold the equivalent of $1.4MM for some number of weeks/months; there has to be some risk that they will defa

That would be really neat. It could also solve a security issue with public CDNs. Right now there's nothing to stop a malicious CDN from changing the content of an included script on your site without you knowing it. With a hash tag li

Is there an API or a way to get the raw beacon ID being broadcasted? I am already thinking of some really cool projects you could make with this. Beacon aware doggie doors, doggie location analytics within the house, a treat dispenser that

I find it weird that there is no mention of pricing anywhere. Even if you go to sign up and switch to "premium" it doesn't tell you how much it's going to cost you! Edit: They have now added $19/mo on the Premium si

Interesting. If a 2.5 watt laser was used for communication from the ISS to Earth what wattage would be needed to send a high-bandwidth message back from Mars (or Titan)? How does that compare to traditional radio-based communication? This
