Better stick to the facts rather than partisan polemics and distortion. They made Github take down an app for spreading information on and organizing demonstrations . These demonstrations have been by and large peaceful. Like it or not, fr

Well, how about acting like a civilized European state going about it, including respecting the freedoms of speech and assembly as fundamental rights? The recent developments look very bad, and the Spanish state seems to be engaging in blat

There's this: "Web pages need to be isolated from each other, ideally in the form of stand-alone processes. Thread-level isolation is also allowed."

Neither are judges free to ignore the European Convention on Human Rights or the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights when interpreting and applying those national laws. Also, wouldn't be the first time Spain got slapped by ECtHR because o

https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/englisch_stgb/ It's hard to find anything very close to sedición , particularly given that I've understood that the Spanish Supreme Court has now found that threat of force

Don't be silly. I was merely referring to well-known ECHR case law, such as Stern Taulats and Roura Capellera v. Spain, which was about two men convicted of burning a photograph of the Spanish royal couple , and stating some opinions

Didn't bother to check France, but with respect to Germany, you must be talking about (serious) high treason. Give me a break. Edit: Your reference is talking about rebellion. Not relevant?

I don't think this is relevant for the judgments in question if there was no incitement to violence or comparable from the convicted.

I'd argue the sentences are harsh at least compared to many if not most European countries. Where I live, for example, the offence related to serious seditious activity (Endangering the sovereignty of Finland) carries a penalty range

So what? Everyone knows Spanish criminal law isn't up to modern European human rights standards. The European Court of Human Rights has found Spain violating ECHR due to handing out punishments for offences as ridiculous as "insul

Perhaps. Then again, people don't often get, for example, how brutish even Western Europe was pre-1945. But realistically, yeah, not during the current generation of people in power. The next generation looks worrying, too, and authori

Yeah, that's human nature. A lot of people were fairly satisfied even behind the Iron Curtain for a time before the economic dysfunction became too apparent. Yet even then as now, we have every right to project and even attempt to impo

Could there be a cultural factor, too? At least historically, in very rough habitats, you really wanted to be useful for your community, not a burden. Many native tribes in eg. Alaska and Canada even had a range of customs around suicide

I don't get your argument at all. Taste is hard to change, it's very much hard-coded to our brain. Artificial meat makes it easier to do the right thing, so it seems to me like a very much unambivalently good thing.

Orwell was not a Trotskyist. Aligned with them briefly due to circumstances but he was skeptical of whether Trotsky's strain of dictatorship would have been any better than that of Stalin.

Oh, come on! It's the 21st century. "Insulting the Crown", whatever that is, should totally be protected as free speech. Rebellion and sedition sound really backward and dusty too. Yarr, like some pirate-age stuff, man...
