First class functions are a lot less interesting without functional data structures, with methods like map, filter, reduce, etc. These were added in Java 8, but Go has always been against them. This may change with generics, people can cert

Agreed with the article, though obviously it’s a bit dated (especially around generics and package management). My take is that Go is basically the new Java, with fewer abstractions and faster compilation. Although, the pre-Java 8 Java, bef

2 years is less than I’d expect. I remember an 18 year old kid got 1.5 years for creating a variant of the Blaster worm (not even the original), and I don’t think he even profited from it? This guy is a fully grown adult, created an illegal

Yeah, agreed, though if you’re using Redis as central pub/sub infra in an environment with tonnes of different services who produce and consume events, a migration can get tedious. Certainly not as bad as traditional DB migrations, but

For me, for a “fully self driving” feature to be ready for wide market sales, it needs to be as good or better than a human. A more “drive assist” feature, like current Tesla autopilot, where there has to be a human driver ready to take ove

Redis isn’t used exclusively as a cache. It’s used a lot as a job queue, as an event bus, for session storage, etc. Some even use it as a core source of truth database, though this is rarely a good idea IMO.

Yeah, my high school started at 8:50 am too, and that still felt too early. This article mentioned that Seattle high schools used to start at 7:50 am, that seems absolutely nuts. I’d peg roughly 9:30 am as a good time for high schools to st

Ah interesting, didn’t know that. Certainly their main use case that drove their growth, though, has been a simple “get signatures on a document over the internet” product. Also, if the CLM product targets a Salesforce integration, sounds l

It was a good read, thanks for writing it. Also, assuming this is correct: > Almost no SMB views contract management as an urgent problem. And I think it probably is, then IMO you made the right decision. I don’t know the space very well

Tesla’s HQ is on the outskirts of Palo Alto, pre-pandemic most employees commuted in from San Francisco or San Jose. It’s a 3-4 hr bike ride each way from SF, or a 1.5-2 hr bike ride each way from SJ. Not exactly practical. Public transit

I know a lawyer who works exclusively in the tech space, who’s dealt with Musk companies a number of times. He said they use the slimiest tactics he’s ever seen, are constantly acting in bad faith. Would not surprise me one bit if this was

As someone who’s done lots of RESTful (or RESTish) json/HTTP APIs, lots of gRPC, and lots of GraphQL … the simplest, best solution in almost all cases is RESTful json/HTTP APIs. There’s really no need for gRPC for the rest of us,

Agreed, although it’s not always fire-and-forget (i.e. send a message and don’t wait for a response). Actors generally do support request/response style messaging, but it’s always async - it’s really only synchronous request/respo
