They don't want to do this because the secret to making money in IT is creating a glut in the supply of labor for IT workers. When you add licensing (i.e. requiring a license as a doctor or a lawyer does), this creates a barrier to ent

I'm glad you've been able to find a healthy way to solve your anxiety issues. That being said, (and I don't want to start a religion vs. atheism debate here) do you think what you do is on the whole any different than someone

A similar thing happened to me. Someone was repeatedly trying to access a gmail account of mine, which is strange because that account had not been active for over 5 years. They supplied the correct credentials every time, and the IP origin

This may or may not be a bad change to HN, it's too early to tell. Instead of having karma as the sole criterion of whether or not to endorse comments, why not have additional criteria such as age of the account, or number of threads s

That seems like a knee-jerk reaction. We don't know what has really happened, and we've only heard one side of the story. It seems like these days people are just looking for something to be upset about.

It may be universal, but as you yourself suggest, it is highly dependent on cultural constraints. To talk of bullying in India without understanding communal tensions is ignorant and takes away from the rest of your valid points.

The only case where a completely random strategy works is if there are black swan events occurring at equally random intervals. I agree on the buy-and-hold index fund advice.

Sure you do. All index funds disclose their holdings, and index ETFs show their constituent equities, along with any tracking error from the index being tracked. A long time ago, "proprietary" traders would perform index arbitrage

I think the problem is that many people are reactive when it comes to risk. Most people tend to be risk averse, which is counterintuitive to the empirical observation that they don't prepare well for so-called "black swan" ev

I highly doubt that this particular bug was due to a shadowy government agency or that type of collusion. It's more likely that someone fucked up, it can happen to anyone. You have to look at it from a game-theoretic perspective. Assum
