The end of biological life can be disconcerting, frightening, and tragic. But I truly believe we are on the cusp of an era where one's biological features - genetics, characteristics, phenotypes, etc...will no longer limit them. "

You didn't answer the parent's comment, though. The answer is that the cost of electricity is greater than running this game, even if it's run in the background. It's irrelevant if you live in a dorm or your parent'

Why stop there? Why not install a video camera on every street corner, in every home, and deep packet inspection on every network hub? Panopticon seems really nice in theory, and it's easy to support if you think you're the watchm

When I lived in NYC, I thought the NYPD were bad. Then I moved to SF and got to experience the wonderful treatment of the SFPD. Can't wait until my lease is up (another 5 months to go) so I can gtfo.

Google is not the only player in the self-driving car market (or soon to be market), though. There's Tesla, GM (with the Cruise acquisition)...heck even @geohot's startup comma.ai is also tackling the same challenges. I highly dou

When I was a youngin' browsing BBSes in the 90s, I remember distinctly encountering a text guide to "the art of disappearing", essentially getting off the grid as Stephen Fry mentions. It involved a whole bunch of seemingly p

How about multinational corporations that answer to nobody and are staffed by the top psychologists in the world to subtly manipulate the masses? Is that a "conspiracy" in your eyes or merely reality?

We are headed to a dystopian state so quickly it's not even remotely funny anymore. The only thing I will say is resist them - resist the status quo and fight back against authority. We can fight back with tools like cryptocurrency, or

Containment as a foreign policy led to extremely bad outcomes globally, as did colonialism. It wasn't just SK treating it's citizens poorly, it was the vast majority of second and third world countries that had a history of coloni

Was South Africa really a democracy under apartheid? Or the US under Jim Crow? Or Turkey currently? I don't think you can be considered a democracy if you are at war with half of the people within your borders.

I'm struck by how hopeless the average person appears to be in these pictures. You can see only sadness and despair in their eyes, it is truly quite tragic.

Interesting. You couldn't spend more than 3 minutes on the site, yet I'm sure you spent plenty of time coming up with your (in your mind) witty comment adding no substance whatsoever to the conversation.

I really miss DriveNow in SF and the South Bay. It was really convenient if I missed my shuttle in the mornings, or if I had to come back to the city on the weekends. One more reason to ditch SF and move to Seattle I suppose.

Hosting the server itself is not per se illegal (well, maybe it might be; alternative Battle.net servers were given C&Ds back in the day), but you still need a game client to extract stuff like map and vmap data from all of the game fil

That's horrifying. Is there any way to disable the GC and manually manage memory? I don't remember if the C# spec supports this, because it's been years since I've written in it (and Mono didn't exist back then).

That sounds horrible. But it's not as bad as SF, where the SFPD shoots first and asks questions later. Edit: why the downvotes? I can provide an innumerable amount of sources.[0][1][2] [0] http://m.motherjones.com/polit
