The article mentions Musk but not ... Tesla? How about Einstein, Newton, Ford or the Wrights? Innovation is inherently disruptive - it changes the way the world runs. Now that's not to say you need disruption to be successful (Buffett

It made me want to learn python. I've been thinking about programming language development, and some weird things from the typing front. This could be easily used to achieve unions. But another thing that I was thinking about was the r

Trying to measure the length of a curve f(x). I turn the curve into a fixed infinitesimal thickness (2 * 𝛿t) 'rope' and measure the area. Then I divide the area by the thickness to get the length. The rope is defined as the area b

Thanks for the links (and the flame war). Another thing that I'm wondering about is how to calculate the length of a function. What I'm thinking, is that you can treat a function like a piece of string, you take f(x) and generate

One thing that I've thought about, when using calculus in programs, you're often dealing with a very small (but finite) Δx, rather than an infinitesimal 𝛿x. And I don't think that the common differential equation is the ideal

> to make language constructs consistent and stand out more That sort of thing also makes parsing easier from the compiler side; you can look at the string token and know without context whether or not it's a keyword.

These seem largely to be straw-men; brake rotors, pads, headlights.... all have associated safety standards. You can install your own brake pads sure, but as a layman if you installed brake pads of your own design and construction, it might

Within reason, sure - but there are limits. End user control over safety critical software is not only dangerous, but a potential source of significant legal liability. I don't want an EV that's capable of accelerating at the maxi

It's a bit like sudoku; start with the elements for which there's only one choice, and rotate into place. Often this will lead to more tiles with only one viable configuration. (At very least you'll reduce the search space.)

It actually amazes me the degree to which people just don't realise that what they are doing can be automated - even in software companies. I caught my manager one day, manually traversing application screens taking screenshots and the

Surely there's a correlation between ease of reading and ease of compilation? I'm thinking in terms of avoiding back-tracking in your syntax. E.g.: regices are hard as shit to read, and I don't think that back-tracking helps
