Given how much of this involves lots of stuff being on fire, rockets fail to explode amazingly often.

I don't know what role Musk actually played in design (beyond "it needs to be pointy"), but he absolutely bet the farm on SpaceX. One more rocket-boom and SpaceX and Elon's pocketbook were done for.

It is absolutely staggering what a titanic job Elon has done of obliterating his reputation. I really wish he could just come out and say "sorry guys, I haven't slept in 6 years", coma the fuck out and come back as a sanish m

Smart people are everywhere, in small percentages - they can learn to do most things. I think part of the problem is, recruiters are (on average) less smart than greedy, and there's a layer of them before you even get to HR. Then you g

This reminded me of a presentation of progress meeting that I once attended. I left wondering if I was the only one that noticed they'd said and shown nothing at all.

A group that represents ~1% of people is demanding representation commensurate with the rest of the human population. In a for profit environment. Perhaps they need to readjust their expectations?

X has some fundamental security issues: https://security.stackexchange.com/questions/4641/why-are-pe... The lack of problems on X and the problems on Wayland are mostly an issue of maturity.

> Java literally has a JIT to make generics fast ??? By the time it gets to the JIT, java generics have long since been erased. Java's generic classes run at the same speed as everything else, because there's no actual generics

One thing that I did skip over: the limiting factors in manufacturing. judging by the pictures on the Samsung marketing page, the nucleus of their current design is down to 15 atoms for the highest frequency dot. in this case

Not my field, but quantum dots are incredible. Quantum dots are of reversible polarity, a QD can absorb a photon of the same frequency it can release. QD frequency response is a function of size, not composition: unlike traditional LEDs the

That's neat - makes me think of 2D light-cones. The author doesn't mention it, so I'm not sure if he noticed - but this method is trivially extensible to weighted Voronoi graphs. All you need to do is change the gradients of

What's the underlying structure that leads to the complex behaviour? It's not asking about the motivation for the form, it's asking about the properties of the structure. With scissors neither the mechanism or the behaviour i

You're right. And oddly enough, as off-topic as my comment was, there's something self reinforcing about it. The fact that my mind leapt straight to the political shows the extent to which my thought processes have reshaped around

If there's a shared cause to both it's industrialisation. It is the reason we're well fed and well educated - here's where I'd look for the cause of acceptance. It's also the beast we built to burn the world.

It can be both (it almost certainly is). And as for the social awakening, acceptance is one thing (marriage and rights were a long time coming) - denial of reality for the sake of people's feelings is quite another. 100% of all LGBTQ+

The West's movement away from an Abrahamic worldview has certainly helped with the acceptability. There's no doubt that there's an aspect of the expectation of acceptance and safety that makes self-identification more viable
