Maybe I chose the wrong word. Writing good summaries is hard! What they describe in the paper (they call it a "treatment") is more like a training for newlyweds. Maybe I should have phrased it like this: Couples who decline to tak

I don't think this is actually an example where you really know what the right thing to do is. A) You can do what you think is right B) You can do what other person thinks is right It's not clear that either A or B is the correct

Please make sure to read the full paper before jumping to conclusions! This was not a fully randomized study! The main outcome of the study was that couples that participated in ANY treatment had similar outcomes. The benefit was compared t

I loathe how everything on the internet has become this worldwide competition. Somebody does something, and immediately everyone says, well, this other person did this much better. Like, who cares? This guy built something, made fun videos

As noted by gus_massa in another thread, the 55% figure for human accuracy is from a different study with a different datasets, so it's questionable how comparable the results are.

In this case I used the word "systemic" to mean "relating to the system as a whole" as opposed to just a small part of the system. I don't know if there is a better word. Maybe "societal" would work better

> What is a systemic disadvantage for non-white students but racism? Parental income or education could be a systemic disadvantage that is not racist. Or a lack of role models. Or different amount of support by families.

I never said anything about racism. You are putting words in my mouth. Systemic disadvantage doesn't mean someone is actively trying to harm these students. A 10x difference needs a bit more explaining than some handwaving about racial

My experience in school (and now with my kids in school) was that there was no such thing as a group of "average" students. There's a huge variation in most grades. Sure, you could pick the smartest kid in each class and put

I think the smarter thing to do would be to stop demanding everyone complete the same tasks. Let the quicker students skip the repetitive exercise and give them something challenging. Or let them explain it to the slower kids.

I thought that there were a couple of free options for iOS/macOS, but to be honest I haven't looked into it for a couple of years, our in house solution is good enough.

There's an option 4: you are running out of RAM and macOS is doing a lot of swapping. These SSDs can probably write on the order of 3000MB/s = 0.003TB/s, so you could end up with 155 TB total writes after just 155/0.003&
