I made a bookmarklet for easily calculating statistical significance, specifically for this use case. After enabling the bookmarklet, you click the numbers you need and then it sends it to an A/B testing calculator hosted by the folks who m

Only if everyone loads it the same way. But there are lots of different ways to load GA; the only reason _gaq.push() isn't scary and doesn't raise the specter of race conditions is because of the 'spoofing' GA does. There are LOTS of differ

You can't reliably use Array#concat on the _gaq object. Once Google Analytics loads, it replaces the _gaq array with a custom object that has it's own push() method. That object doesn't have concat() on it. So, your core coding style will o

How many emails in a thread can this handle? A friend was JUST asking me of a way to export a 55,000 email long email thread. Will he break this if he uses it?

Only in the Webkit Inspector console, nowhere else. $ is also a shortcut (I forget for what though). They're over-written by a page if that page defines that variable globally in some way.

Sorry, I meant the security of relying on the services in general, not of exposing that someone has an account with you. Obviously, that's a serious security consideration, and each service should weigh the costs and the benefits. In this c

That's probably the right way to think about GA data in general; the only reason I highlighted it is because the bounce rate so heavily skewed the metric that it made it almost meaningless.

One minor note: If you're using Google Analytics for your web analytics data, your time on site metric is somewhat meaningless. Bounces get counted as time on site = 0. That means that 37 seconds metric is weighted down by 89% of visits hav

Just Adwords and Google Analytics. Web Development keywords tend to be expensive, so it was cheaper to focus on many long tail terms rather than compete for "wordpress", "web development", etc. I started out with hundreds of terms related t

Adwords worked best for me by crafting ads targeting specific niche specializations that would grab long tail traffic. In my case, it was converting websites to WordPress. I didn't need every single person looking for WordPress work; 50 cli

2 minor notes: 1. This article offhandedly claims that document.write injection is async; it's been widely written otherwise; I'm curious as to what the evidence is. 2. In the Cleaning House section, the Google Analytics code can be loaded

So, the term "Burner" is associated with temporary cell phones used by criminals to avoid wiretaps. Presumably that's the inspiration for the name and the concept. What happens if your app indeed becomes a salvage for criminals? What's your

I do this with Optimizely (YC W10), which has a similar arbitrary-goal JavaScript API. I scatter Optimizely goal calls throughout our tracking scripts, and any test we happen to be running will pick it up.

If you've ever used jQuery, you've used prototypes directly. For example, with $("a").click(), "click" is a function on the jQuery object's prototype; ie, $.prototype.click . Since you're likely to have multiple jQuery objects in a script,
