Absolutely. Fire won't be put out unless someone shows exactly how much there is...

I'm not sure what fire has been put out here. IMO, a more convincing proof for the usefulness of this approach would be that it allows to find whole new classes of exploitable vulnerabilities that can then be corrected ahead. That'

I think YouTube cares quite a bit about clickbait. Just looking at its recommendations vs everything else I see online, it seems fairly tame in terms of clickbaitiness. Check out the trash labeled "powered by Outbrain" across the

When they removed public dislike counts, I don't think a visible dislike counter has been visible next to the thumbnail. You'd still have gotten clickbaited for the same reasons back then.

Advertisers have always had ways to block likes and dislikes. The problem was that dislike counts were abused by people driving dislikes on videos for inauthentic reasons (YouTuber supports cause X, we disagree with X, therefore let's

I disagree. Data center ops have been completely reinvented by the devops practices. Sure it's a bunch of sysadmins at the start, but a bunch of sysadmins really trying hard to take themselves out of the loop so that things can scale.

AT&T, Comcast are great examples of companies that have tried to expand into online video distribution, and completely lost out to companies with better software management practices. Both of these companies had a huge leg up 10 years a

We haven't told ourselves that shipping garbage in short cycles is the only way to do things. The market has pretty much determined that companies that over invest in formal software design activities lose out competitively in the

My understanding is that precooked crustacean meat is a byproduct of shipping loss (sh*t this crab looks like it's not going to make it, let's cook it before it dies). So yeah, not the freshest.

This kind of metric is tricky to interpret: one where both numerator (likes etc) and denominator (followers) are "good things", so that a ratio going up can mean good or bad. This person is testing just one piece of content, but i

Well no, if you believe that airlines as an industry are simply responding to incentives in a competitive marketplace, passengers are also responsible for being so much more sensitive to ticket price than to legroom...

In the US, companies have essentially two lawsuit survival strategies: don't communicate anything to customers until it has been reviewed by an array of lawyers, or communicate without review and without creating a record.

Zip isn't a file transfer protocol, it's a file compression format and popular file extension. Still, I don't understand a scenario in which this is going to be abused for exploitation.
