Sure there may be some exceptions. That's why I said "generally".

If you have a zero revenue business you generally shouldn't write tests. Just add some health checks for backend services and use strongly typed code for everything.

Did he forget Minecraft? It was made by a solo developer. He's now a billionaire from it and bought one of the most expensive homes in LA.

Even with nomads, they had territory they could live in or not live in, based on the existence of other tribes. I was clumping that in with real estate. Even animals do this (for example wolves). And obviously in the feudal system land was

For countless millennia, humans didn't need anything more except food, some very basic tools, a place to live, and other humans. You could argue that everything since then is layers and layers of bullshit. Bitcoin is just another one.

It definitely has utility but it is at the same time overhyped IMO. Some examples of utility: 1. Cross-border transfers without needing permission from banks or identification 2. A fungible digital asset you can hoard and nobody can physica

The entire economy outside of agriculture and real estate is basically "bullshit", if you really think about it. The ratio of bullshit to everything else seems to increase over time, though, as a general trend. It's probably

I remember when people used to first talk about Bitcoin on HN back in early 2011 or so. The price was only $2 then. Congrats to anyone who had some and held onto it this long - personally I sold off mine in 2015 (big mistake in hindsight).

Incidentally I noticed in India most fast food shops have enough spare workers to clean tables for you. So you don't have to clean your own table.

One of the reasons Communism failed was because of incentives. People were not rewarded with more compensation for working harder.

What do you mean exactly? Literally every job that exists in the private sector is created by a company, and companies are created by shareholders.

The original shareholders created the company. Without them there wouldn't be jobs. The newer shareholders provided liquidity to the original shareholders. Their benefit to society was helping to incentivize the people who created the

Air pollution and CO2 emissions are different things. One causes cancer and heart issues, the other causes global warming. Large amounts of particulate in the air (for example from a volcano) would probably cause global cooling since it blo

CouchDB/PouchDB has very clunky auth so IMO it's better to roll your own auth and either use a reverse proxy with a JWT or else hide the DB behind an API service.

There are near-infinite things they could name their software, but instead they copied an existing name of another software project. Quite insufferable if you ask me.

TypeScript is good for this kind of a thing if you're only running it on your own machines and don't have to mess around with environments all the time. You can also run it with ts-node.

Not trying to offend anyone here but I think shell scripts are the wrong solution for anything over ~50 lines of code. Use a better programming language. Go, Typescript, Rust, Python, and even Perl come to mind.
