There are lots of people who hack electronics or do desktop programming who have no idea how servers work even though they might be interested. We can't know everything and reminding people of their ignorance when they're asking

Ever so pleasant, Linus does nothing to explain to luddites why they should use Linux.

What is it? I'm not going to connect to Dropbox if I don't know what it does.

I love cooking (it's beyond a normal passion for me) and I love eating wholesome foods every chance I get. I actually spend more money and time to eat a properly balanced diet. When I'm lazy or lack time to cook properly I'

The difference I see with Tessel is that you require less learning electronics and you're right away capable of programming modules just after you plug them in. To me that has considerable value.

I've played with Arduino and the #1 complaint I have about it is that in order to do anything I have to learn a whole lot about electronics. With Tessel you just plug a new module and npm install and you're good to go.

And that is where the line divides. Android users are like you... they don't want to pay for software and go for cheaper hardware when they can.

This smells like a flop to me.

Wait... there is still a developer NDA?

Yes and that's a much better starting point for a discussion :-D

I'm going to call you out on this one. You're dismissing perfectly viable criticism as "fanboyism". The mechanisms are wildly different: On Android the app developer chooses if he is a good citizen or not and can if he

Awesome work! I wonder if the effect will be long lasting.

You forget a few things. On Android can't the app just run forever and decide on its own how often to poll the servers? This is a different thing. The OS decides when to schedule things if the app supports it. Also battery life has im

Can you explain what you mean? It's not obvious to me from my perspective.

Journey is without a doubt one of the most remarkable games I've played in the last 2 years. There are others that I really enjoyed in the moment but Journey is the one I'll pick up to replay again and again.

The deal totally makes sense from my perspective. I wouldn't be surprised if they try really hard to buy BlackBerry for cheap as well when they falter low enough to be worth it for them.

It's a single block of metal laser cut to fit all the components within a solid yet light fixture. It's a power plug that if tugged will not drop your laptop to the ground. It's a backlit keyboard that feels great on the fin

I know this may a bit off topic but the Sears catalog was also how some young kids got off the pictures of women in bras. As a Frenchman this was ridiculously funny to me.

I disagree. I value a strong body for a lightweight laptop. I also really enjoy little details like the backlit keyboard and the magnetic power cord attachment that saved me more times than I can count on one hand. If you do not value any o

A friend of mine died in the last year from cancer. He was in his 30s. I too replaced a lot of the time I spent hacking to spend with my family. I like side projects but I love my family.
