Oof that hits home. This is something I always struggle with. My personality seems to fight me every time I need to go up the chain and deliver bad news.

We've hit something similar with kitchens. It turns out most people need a designer or they won't buy a kitchen. When mitre 10 offers design for free it's hard to compete.

Yeah, this is true but I tend to hand craft my persistence to a database. I'm not sure how using files would be any easier. I'd have to manage a bunch of files on top of what I'm already doing.

How can you store program state on disk like that? You'd need serialization and deserialization. A DB might be easier.

You're correct, but there are enough in this audience that upvote and share this stuff to get me wondering why. I'm not making a judgement on the topic, but it seems to me to be a little different to most everything else on here.

Your description makes me think it's a little gross. Is there something I'm missing as to why such poetry is worth reading?

There seems to be interest on HN when it comes to articles about Crowley and similar figures. Can some one help me understand why it's popular with this audience?

Does ubiquity still count when you have dependencies? I find any Perl application of reasonable size collects a few dependencies and they can cause pain when installing on different systems.

How does this compare to say switching to n electric car? I think it's important people focus their efforts on the low hanging fruit. What's the biggest impact at the lowest cost.

That's a great attitude you'll get there! Just remember sometimes it's not that you're doing anything wrong. Sometimes it just takes time for an opportunity to open up.

Yes that's my point as you change tools you have to learn new keys. It's fine if you can dictate your tools are only vim/i3/cli. I haven't had that luxury.
