It nevertheless is confusing for somebody who doesn't know erlang. Even prolog uses different symbols for matching a variable and for defining a clause.

I wouldn't say "not possible". Interoperability between java and groovy is quite good. It's to some degree true for clojure and scala -- two languages I haven't used myself yet. There are example snippets around in the Internet that demonst

In an ideal world the would be no need for Java being the middle-man. That project was founded in 2007. The last release is from 2008. Has anybody ever adopted it?

In an ideal world, you should be able to use libraries written in any jvm-based language. It seems to me this isn't easily possible today with most jvm-based languages but maybe I'm wrong.

How come you know their IQ scores? Or is it just an assumption that a "genius" has a super-high IQ? BTW most of those "geniuses" have a wealthy/bourgeois familiy background and they had to have some social skills to manage other people that

I didn't mean to imply that it would be a bad thing if dnd from one window to another wasn't possible. I personally hate the dnd metaphor, which IMHO is an example of GUI designers gone wild, and would love to see it replaced with something

Stripes is also the name of a Java web framework. The world would be a much better place if people did some research before naming their software. I guess you won't drag and drop elements from one window to the other with such a GUI.

Unfortunately, the energy needed to build & power ebook readers & to generate & distribute ebooks (incl. maintaining the necessary server farms and other ICT infrastructure) doesn't grow on trees.

For several decades a sufficiently large number of books will be sold to make enough money out of production, distribution, storage, and sale. Then BOD will take over but books will be still there.

IMHO the ruby revolution boils down to "convention over configuration". This notion was pushed by ruby library before RoR and built on the idea (by the creator of ruby) that the programmer as human being should come first. So ruby hackers p

Go, see a doctor. Read up on workplace ergonomics (make sure there is no window behind the screen). Try another monitor. Don't wear contacts when working. Don't work at night or in the early morning. Maybe use a dark background.

I don't see this a problem because most only few posts on the front page have that many comments. I find troll comments mostly in the discussion thread of posts with 100+ comments, which are rather rare. What I find more annoying are low qu

No it wouldn't if it were true for, let's say, 9 physicists out of 10. But then such a statement would probably be true for all of mankind. Human beings can't surf.

Isn't the problem rather that e-mail (or rather smtp) is dead (or should be). It seems to me the only solution to this problem is a web-based BBS or replace e-mail with something else. Or is there a mailling list server that requires users

I wouldn't hire somebody who publishes a picture named "obama-winning-the-nobel-proves-that-white-guilt-is-one-of-the-most-awesome-powers-on-earth.jpg" on his blog (although I'm open to interpretations of that filename).

Looking at twins that grew up in the same environment isn't all that appropriate for making statements about the dominance of genes. Of course, if the data doesn't fit our assumptions we could always cite Cyril Burt or do it like he did.
