I've been fighting for this approach for ten years now. I can divide organizations into two camps. One will see value in it. The other will not, and they have innumerable problems because they have to constantly refactor, have bugs, an

Sadly, I can't disagree. You are very right to call out that in a corporate environment getting things done is judged by the eye of the beholder. This, imho, makes this article even more naive because posthog is pretending they don

I wrote a book about GitHub a while back. I interviewed a bunch of GitHub engineers. One comment was really fascinating: at least some teams required the engineer to write up an empty PR (with zero code) about how they were going to do thin

Agreed. I think Linux is, 800% less predatory (I love Trump math) than Microsoft Windows. Just booting it up clean is inviting a salesperson shilling all kinds of junk to your kids.

I don't disagree at all. It's such a complicated problem, unless you have all the kids in your kid's circle prohibited from gaming the peer pressure is intense. I am starting to come to the conclusion that you can't real

They probably will want to play games. It's a slippery slope. But if you go that route: Steam works amazingly well. And you can set up family controls. Roblox works great using "Sober" I don't recommend letting them play

I haven't. I will. I wonder if you could ablate everything except for a specific language.

But, for example, Zig as a language has prominent corporate support. And, Mitchell Hashimoto is incredibly active and a billionaire. It feels like this would be a rational way to expand the usage of a language.

This is why I asked this question yesterday: "Ask HN: Why don't programming language foundations offer "smol" models?" https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=45840078 If I could run smol single langua

I have a nest thermostat, but the strongly worded warnings are scary. And, I would really love to wire my nest into home assistant, but getting past the Google house of horrors is even scarier. Are there any good thermostats that can be use

I actually totally agree. This was because a friend who lives a thousand miles away also plays it (and his parents have different views on what Fortnite means). I'm sure gaming companies optimize for peer pressure effects, because that

I was really proud that my kids (8,10,12) all have used linux for gaming for the last several years. Steam runs perfectly for most games. And, they know how to to use "flatpak update" to update the sober runtime for Roblox (I know

I can't even finish an article like this. The levels of corruption are insane. Can anyone who is a Trump supporter actually defend this pardon with any coherence? I'm really willing to listen.

Can anyone elaborate on why Canada has 100% tariffs on EVs? I think I know why the US does: lobbying by American automakers. Did the US threaten Canada unless they followed suit a long time ago, and is this change a sign that leverage is no

Be careful, you commenting here is exactly the starting point for how the Mossad gets a highly radioactive uranium cell phone into your back pocket. I'm sorry I was too late for you.

Fascinating, I use Firefox because on Android I can use extensions (for this https://plzat.me ). This is a great alternative. Edit: hard to find where to get this browser. Do I need to build it myself?

I stopped reading when he said "I have no direct reports" in the first paragraph. If you are the CTO and have no direct reports, you are pretending to be a CTO because that is not what a CTO does. (Actually, I did read more, but w

Ok. I'm a contractor. I live in Florida with zero protections. I have three kids. I'm 51 and have had a hell of a time finding work the last few years. I'm pretty scared of doing this, honestly.

Can you elaborate on this? I'm curious to hear more details about this. For example, does a Asus ROG laptop match M chips from Apple? For example, I see Asus ROG g16 indicates a 13th gen Intel chip. Am I wrong to assume these are the s
