There are an estimated one to two million mines in the Korean DMZ. Emplaced by both the South and North Koreans since the 1950s. There is no possibility all those mines are mapped properly. And most of them are not the self-disabling/d

Like humanity in general, there is a lot of variety. My dad has been a pescetarian for 30+ years, so I'm aware of the term and use it at least two or three times a year. Personally, I'm a flexitarian and eat a reduced animal flesh

I got a 300 baud modem right around the same time. There were a few local BBSs that ran meetups, scavenger hunts, warez parties and the like. I got to know a bunch of the regulars from the area. Pretty cool time.

I loved those gold box games. Wanted to get into FRUA, but it just didn't work for me and I didn't have a lot of time to really dig into the details. Those game editors are tough to build. I worked on Bard's Tale Construction

After they killed Skype, I tried to install the mobile Teams app. It wouldn't sync properly with the desktop app, so deleted it and forgot it existed. So glad it wouldn't work!

If the Beatles can use AI to restore a poorly recorded cassette tape of John Lennon playing the piano and singing at his dinner table, I think it's alright if other bands do it, too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N

Considering how unhealthy soda is to consume, I'd ban those ads in a heartbeat right along side tobacco and alchohol. The UK just banned all TV and online junk food ads and I'm alright with that.

Mr. Beast on youtube is guilty of that. Matt Parker of Standup Maths fame did an in-depth look at how that works. Whoever came up with that type of progress bar must hate people in general. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uc

Interesting question. Somewhere between 400,000-550,000 (the number varies greatly depending on source) US servicemen (Army, Navy, and Marines) participated in nuclear tests from 1946 to 1962. As of 2024, about 10,000 were still alive. htt

When I sold Windows 2.1 at Egghead Software, my spiff was an extra 30% for the first month as a promo. I always assumed that was a loss leader by Microsoft to push extra copies on release.
