See the Fed’s attempt in December 2018. Fed tried to raise rates and let bonds purchased mature naturally and roll off the balance sheet. The market immediately tanked hard.

The stock market is not the economy, as we can tell today. I do think “things are different” in many ways, in the sense that it’s impossible to ignore the interventions the Fed has taken to blow up their balance sheet to $7T and will likely

I don’t think this is about search dominance. It’s probably about Google stifling competitors on their own search results page. Yelp has complained forever that Google ranks their own reviews above Yelp. Things like that.

I’m wondering if the focus is going to be on the search business or how Google stifles competitors on their search results page? I know Yelp for example has long claimed Google downranks their results over Google’s own reviews etc.

Gotcha. I would be surprised if the gov couldn’t find some incriminating emails though of executives talking about how to kill Bing when MSFT looked like it was gunning to be a search competitor. We will see though.

Does it matter how a monopoly came to be a monopoly?

The antitrust lawsuit is focused on Google’s dominance of search. The specific question is whether Google has a monopoly on search. I think the case is pretty strong that it does.

Much more regulated. And the T-Mobile + Sprint deal did get a lot of scrutiny, much more than any tech acquisition has ever gotten.

How is Google diversified? Outside of Cloud they make money almost exclusively with ad revenue from Google and YT

Ok sure but these companies are trading near all time highs. I imagine digital ad spend is somewhat correlated with changes in consumer demand. If demand drops significantly, how does Google and FB stay at a valuation identical to a pre-Cov

I’m still wondering how the stock market is assuming that tech cos that rely heavily on digital ad spend like Google and FB are effectively recession proof even though media outlets with the same business model are clearly not.

I assume there’s some Great Wall that prevents growth teams from using data from the FB SDK to spy on competitors. Wouldn’t be true of Giphy analytics.

I assume they must. Otherwise analytics sent to Giphy would make it too easy for FB to track growth.

It’s a Trojan horse play. Giphy is used by all of FB’s competitors, including Tik Tok. Scummy imo.

Maybe an underappreciated benefit on the normalization of face mask wearing is that it stops unwanted or unknown attempts at facial recognition.

Most restaurants I see on delivery apps inflate their menu prices to compensate. And “calling in” implies that they have their own delivery people on staff, which isn’t true of the majority of restaurants that partner with these apps.

All cash bidding wars are more typical of more expensive single family homes. Anything under $1M is not really of interest to those buyers.
