Self driving cars are public transportation and make areas much more walkable and bikeable.

Just because it's not a train doesn't mean a self-driving car system isn't public transport. Free your mind.

Eh, the impression I got from this podcast ( https://www.searchengine.show/the-trial-of-the-driverless-ca... ) was that unions and other special interests were blocking something that the broader population would be intereste

The general approach to pioneering work like self-driving is: 1) Make it work 2) Make it right 3) Make it cheap For no good reason, Elon tried to solve step 3 before the other two. This is extra strange since SpaceX has done much better at

I also commend you for not "hogging all the work". If you've done well and don't have to work, it's generous to let someone else have their turn.

An exaggeration on my part. About 16% of all drivers are uninsured ( https://insurance-research.org/node/130 ), but "accident probability of uninsured drivers is 34 percentage points higher" ( https://

It's hard to see how Uber is in any way relevant to the future of self-driving.

Good calculation approach. Waymos will drive a lot more than 200K miles in their lifetime. Taxis often do a million miles. There are already photos out there of Waymo odometers over 100K.

Lawyers are salivating at the possibility of suing Waymo if they ever make a mistake. Much better to be hit by a Waymo (or a Tesla Robotaxi) than the typical uninsured, "judgement proof", human driver.

Elon's an ass, but the world needs self driving in as many places, from as many providers, as soon as possible. I wish Elon wasn't so stubborn about admitting he was wrong.

If Teslas could self drive you could sit in the back seat, or sleep, or send the car somewhere without being in it. Elon really wants them to, but Tesla's do not self drive.

Just astounding how immature a company supposedly worth billions can be. Add "no-context public legal rant" to the collection of red flags for OpenAI: CEO/"nonprofit" drama, undetected hacking, etc. This is the kind
