Java is a simple language even if people build gigantic piles of abstractions in it. It doesn't have multiple inheritance, it only has like eight base types, only a few well-worn ways to control flow (while, do while, for, if, switch,

Yeah this is a minor gripe with Julia. It has type inference but it's risky to use.

Yeah the resources feature in Java https://www.jetbrains.com/help/idea/resource-files.html makes it easy to embed arbitrary data with your code (or in this case, your tests, which are usually compiled separately)

My guess is that their racism filter is too coarse and so it treats "jokes about imams" like "jokes about Black people" as opposed to "jokes about nuns". I find it hard to believe that OpenAI would tune their m

I have a similar example. ChatGpt will happily invent jokes about catholic priest, rabbis and buddhist monks... but not about imams. They clearly special cased muslims as humourless (very different from my own experience!)

If you can reuse the test db then it's still not order dependent. If your test framework doesn't support reusing setups, you create some kind of function like getOrCreateDbConnection() that idempotently set up your test environmen

Another technique used with Java is setting the memory really high, run it for a while against mock data until it's warmed up and the compiler has JITted out all the allocations and then move to real data. If the mock data is good, you

Yeah I mean in so far that Go is basically Java-like (GC-ed, statically typed, has interfaces, simple language) it could be used there too. Go targets very much the same kind of problem as Java. C# too. I only have a passing knowledge of Go

I don't think Rust is really suited to replace the million LOC java apps that are found everywhere in finance. (The C++ ones probably ought to be rewritten in Java also, IMO. Or C#.) The reason that such enormous software exists at ban

You should rebase instead of merging when pulling though otherwise you contaminate your branch with merges that mess up the git log. Alternatively you can squash the merges before pushing but this still requires rebasing.
