It was $4000 in today’s dollars, unlikely that it would have been installed in such a cheap car (1985 car prices[0]). Interesting that it cost about as much as the Apple Vision Pro. Probably had way more utility for its buyers. [0] https:&

If you need a database for online workloads (ie, your users interact with your product via reading and writing data to the database) and are ok with writing your backend in JavaScript or TypeScript, you should consider Convex. If you need f

This is kind of how Convex works under the hood, and so we might add more temporal/auditing functionality in the future (like a time-traveling debugger). You could also implement this on top of Convex, if it makes sense for your write

We open-sourced a single-machine version of the backend: https://github.com/get-convex/convex-backend It doesn’t use Kafka, the transaction logic is custom implemented in Rust. Convex does not have special support for

Since it’s really application specific (what rows should be soft deleted, is recovery possible…), you probably want to model these like any other state. With Convex you can do things like schedule a deletion mutation 30 days from now, or ru

1. Consistent reactive UI - better UX and better DevX 2. Transactional by default - avoids concurrency bugs in production 3. End-to-end type safety, best-in-class TypeScript support for React and the backend 4. Explicit indexing for predict

I agree. It’s a tall order to replace all the pieces. You need: - programming language not oriented around files - PL compiler designed first and foremost for incremental complication / interpretation - New source control that’s syntax

Because it was a while ago and I wouldn’t be surprised if someone ripped it out. It’s a bit of an overkill for what it’s used for / the fact that it is not used widely in the app.

Super cool! Especially for low cardinality, low interactivity dashboards this approach makes a ton of sense. How is Observable going to make money off of the framework?

These are great. Most frustrating to me is that the basic commands: rm, mv, cp, touch, mkdir do not follow some of the basic guidelines, such as “ask before destructive action”. I have been reimplemting them in Rust for myself to fix this (

This so well polished!! The README is great. Not much to say besides it really shows how scoping a project down can lead to success.

I actually agree, this is the most questionable piece. I prefer (and have argued for in JS) Hack-style pipes, where the value "placement" always has to be specified. That allows arbitrary expressions on the RHS of the pipe, so for
