We need is more "push" payment systems. They are inherently more secure than "pull" since the customer controls the process. This is how it works in Germany. You order something and the merchant provides their account number and an order nu

I found it interesting that javascript with canvas works on the iphone. (Albeit slow on my 3G only ~5fps - and since it uses keyboard control, you can't get out of the cage.)

Don't forget that it's a dynamic system. As more of the low-hanging fruit emails get picked by spam email harvesters, then there is more value in the harder to decode emails since they haven't been spammed. There is a tipping point where it

I wrote a similar tool for monitoring my own servers. Besides being "up", I find that it's important to track slow responses (>10 secs) and to differentiate between DNS problems and web server problems. (I also find that it's useful to

Interesting sales approach for freelancers that hate cold calls: Use a blog to generate leads. "But the way I looked at it I was either going to invest 500 hours on my blog, or make 1000 cold calls."

Couple of other problems with Drupal that haven't been mentioned: * massive numbers of database queries to build a page (i think 30+ for a relatively boring stock homepage). (Yes, there are cacheing modules - but they only work for anon use

I've run into several archetypal "freetards" in the Drupal community - you probably know the type: To any criticism they say, "Well, you were lucky enough to have been given the source for free, and if you don't like it, go write something

I've also found that those clients who want total control, often don't want to learn anything. The time-and-materials approach makes so much more sense: Steady work for web dev firms, the work can be done by junior workers, the client gets

Summary: use curl to download the dynamic site to static files. It's a kludge. Everytime you add a post, you need to regenerate all pages? That'll start to hurt once you have more than 10 posts.

Sadly, I'm sure they spent a lot of time on the design. I think they're just solving the wrong problem. The lack of storage space limits this to joy riding. You can't buy groceries, commute with a laptop, etc. etc.
