Hi, I am glad that you like it! In case you haven't noticed it, the demos on the homepage (which is a slideshow with animations) also works without JavaScript, it degrades gracefully into a top-down layout.

Examples are a great way to learn. Problems arise when they are the only way one learns.

FWIW, here is a pretty complete shell mostly written by me in ~18K lines of Go: https://github.com/elves/elvish

Given how fast Maps can iterate as evident from the article, I would say that is premature optimization.

There is something missing in the "simple vs. easy" argument. You need to put things in the perspective of evolution. Designing an "easy" language is easy because you can usually resort to human intuitions, yours or some

Shameless plug: Elvish ( https://github.com/elves/elvish ) is a shell with a rich UI. The idea of enriching shell's UI is not new though, zsh and fish are both prior arts.

The trend is universal, although some developing countries have not reached that stage yet. Kurzgesagt has a good video on this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsBT5EQt348

One thing Apple has totally messed up in the Chinese market is localization. When I read Apple advertisements or texts on macOS or iOS UI, I always feel it's some foreigners who just learned to speak Chinese, yet trying to use Chinese

I agree with the first part, but the article has a point on WeChat. It is a very good example of how app vendors have stronger brands while smartphones are seen as commodities in China.

Now that we're seeing WASM being supported, it would be awesome if code in the textbook runs in the browser.

I like the fact that many people consider "reading source code" a way to get Go answers. Go code, the standard library in particular, is really readable.

But the recruitment bar for everyone is roughly the same, no? If non-CS graduates generally are worse (which might be true), only the best of them get hired. This only makes sense if interviewers prefer non-CS graduates.

Hi chubot, I didn't realize that you are developing a shell as well. It's great to see competitions. Can you share some ideas that you learned from the authors of said shells? I would love to hear those, designing shells is not an

If you are interested in a shell with first-class function, list and map values and pipelines that pass such complex data (instead of structureless bytes), you might be interested in elvish: https://github.com/elves/elv
